I've been using the Shaggymac keyboard covers to keep the screen of my laptops from coming into contact with the keyboard. It is a nice heavy-duty material that can also be used to wipe dust off the screen.
Any other suggestions? I don't want to use a silicone keyboard protector over the keys because I can never seem to get used to typing on that.
Is there anything better (or cheaper) out there other than the Shaggymac brand stuff?
Shaggymac does provide great service, however.

I recommend the Choiix C-MQ01
I own 3 my self and must admit its the best microfiber cloth I have had and is on steroids with its rubber base and mouse pad usability. It sells in the Cooler Master shop for like 5$
(pics on the site are not the greatest but)

WOW...that Choiix looks incredible. I may get a few for my laptops ranging from 13.3 up to 17.1.
Too bad the Cooler Master store doesn't have the Choiix 3-in-1 for the 10 inch netbooks in stock. It appears they do not offer it. I really would love this for my HP Mini 1033CL.
GREAT looking product, and great price. Thanks! -
Good luck!!

Thanks for the tip, X2P! -

I just ordered 3 of the black version. I can always use it for my other computers, ie. my Toshiba 13.3 inch and HP DV5T.
If I only ordered 2, the shipping cost was only 7 cents less than if I ordered 3.
Thanks again! -
Thanks for the tip, but I'm not sure I trust a company that has no phone number; no street address and uses a .blogspot domain.
Obviously, they are not selling a high-ticket item so it is probably not a scam but I would like to know more from people who bought from this company first.
Are you connected to this company in any way? After all, you have one post to your name and your user name includes the word "protector."
I need to know more. I would be willing to purchase two or three if I knew more about this company. -

I am connected with the company as I am the owner/operator and would be more than willing to answer your questions and provide support should the mods keep me around this time.
Also, thanks for the tips, I am considering posting my phone number on the site. -

I just use a paper thin sheet of packing foam that is normally packed with the laptop. Cheap, works well, and is easily replaceable if it gets ripped/wrecked.

Should this not be screen protector , not keyboard protector.

You are right. Compared to the shaggymac, this is a protector on steroids. I love the rubberized base and the durability.
I think I'm going to order 4 more. I have 3 now.
Thanks for the heads up! -

Coolermaster is out of the black version of the 3-in-1 protector.
I will call on Monday to see when they will get more in stock.

I just sandwich my mousepad between the screen and the keyboard. It works surprisingly well -
Anyone know where you can get those choiix things in the UK?

If you UK folks can wait till Monday I can see if I can dig up a seller.

ya know, it's all good with these aftermarket products but all it is is a simple 100% polyester microfiber that has been sanded/peached at both sides.
very similar to the fabric you get with purchase of your glasses.
it is widely known in the apparel/textile as faux suede or microfiber cloth...
and if you have a fabric market near by, you can buy a yard or more for the price of what they charge.
things to look for:
1) 100% polyester peached to a "faux suede" texture. micro peached is nice but that process does not pull up the fibers as much to give more buffer barrier against dirt and other parts.
2) density of the fabric.. fold over and look closely at edge, you should not see the base weave texture of the fabric.
these are very nice in that they don't fray at the edges when simply cut with scissors. tho the peached microfiber fabric may fray because the fibers dont lock themselves as much due to shorter fuzz...
when cutting, use extremely sharp scissors and cut big... then trim down to size.
better cutting method is to use masking tape along the edges of the cutting surface, draw your cut lines, use a very sharp exacto blade with metal straight edge, applying a LOT of down pressure on the ruler, especially cutting near the ends/corners.
if you want to buy retail, go to www.radtech.com
THIS is a very good quality of polyester faux suede.
also, i do not recommend using those mouse pad + screen saver thingys...
1) why buy these performance mouse that glides well and use it over a soft and yet not so friction-less surface such as polyester faux suede?
2) it adds to the thickness... anything... i mean ANYTHING, apply enough pressure and over duration of time, it will be abrasive... look at your metal watch frame that you've had for a while... combo of sweat and skin contact eats into the metal's nice chrome finish...
i've had paper and it was enough to mess up the clearcoat of my previous voodoo laptop. -
How are knicks/scratches/etc caused by the keyboard on the screen? Does the keyboard actually touch the screen? Aren't laptops build to leave a little space in between so that doesn't happen?
I was considering buying the 3-in-1 because having a travel mousepad, microfiber cloth, and a screen protector is very convenient, but i'm thinking now, does that make the screen touch the cloth? Add thickness? etc. -
Usually not since its super thin (1 mm or 1.5mm) and you have either a bezel popping out or rubber knobs -
A piece of fabric cut to size works good. A sheet of paper is not as good, but it's better than nothing. A piece cut from Kleenex Viva paper towel is good if the width is adequate for your monitor. -

I presume you've not been able to find one?
What do you use as a Screen protector to prevent keyboard marks?
