I've been using the Shaggymac keyboard covers to keep the screen of my laptops from coming into contact with the keyboard. It is a nice heavy-duty material that can also be used to wipe dust off the screen.

Any other suggestions? I don't want to use a silicone keyboard protector over the keys because I can never seem to get used to typing on that.

Is there anything better (or cheaper) out there other than the Shaggymac brand stuff?

Shaggymac does provide great service, however.

    I recommend the Choiix C-MQ01

I own 3 my self and must admit its the best microfiber cloth I have had and is on steroids with its rubber base and mouse pad usability. It sells in the Cooler Master shop for like 5$

(pics on the site are not the greatest but)

WOW...that Choiix looks incredible. I may get a few for my laptops ranging from 13.3 up to 17.1.

Too bad the Cooler Master store doesn't have the Choiix 3-in-1 for the 10 inch netbooks in stock. It appears they do not offer it. I really would love this for my HP Mini 1033CL.

GREAT looking product, and great price. Thanks!

Cool! So the larger version works with the Asus N10? Perfect. I will order one for my HP Mini 1033CL.

    Thanks for the tip, X2P!

I just ordered 3 of the black version. I can always use it for my other computers, ie. my Toshiba 13.3 inch and HP DV5T.
If I only ordered 2, the shipping cost was only 7 cents less than if I ordered 3.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for the tip, but I'm not sure I trust a company that has no phone number; no street address and uses a .blogspot domain.

Obviously, they are not selling a high-ticket item so it is probably not a scam but I would like to know more from people who bought from this company first.

Are you connected to this company in any way? After all, you have one post to your name and your user name includes the word "protector."

I need to know more. I would be willing to purchase two or three if I knew more about this company.

I did not intend for my initial post to be spam (I had to re-register, no surprise there since I was labeled as a spammer). I am the owner/operator of this small start-up and am simply trying to get the word out. If the forum would allow, I would like to re-post my initial message and stick around to provide support (i.e., not get banned). I provide a high quality product at a comparatively low cost and I think my presence could add value to the forum.

Your concerns are valid and noted. Let me explain. Using a .blogspot domain and not having a dedicated phone number or office location are some of the reasons I can sell my product at a lower price to you. This is a small start-up operation and I intend to keep it that way in order to pass on savings to customers by avoiding unnecessary overhead costs.

I am connected with the company as I am the owner/operator and would be more than willing to answer your questions and provide support should the mods keep me around this time ;).

Also, thanks for the tips, I am considering posting my phone number on the site.

I just use a paper thin sheet of packing foam that is normally packed with the laptop. Cheap, works well, and is easily replaceable if it gets ripped/wrecked.

WOW. Received these really quickly. They've been sitting in a box in my front hall for a few days, and I finally got around to opening up the box.

You are right. Compared to the shaggymac, this is a protector on steroids. I love the rubberized base and the durability.

    I think I'm going to order 4 more. I have 3 now.

    Thanks for the heads up!

With the Shaggymac and the Choiix, I can use the protector as a mousepad, as well. Really helps me when I'm travelling.

ya know, it's all good with these aftermarket products but all it is is a simple 100% polyester microfiber that has been sanded/peached at both sides.

very similar to the fabric you get with purchase of your glasses.

it is widely known in the apparel/textile as faux suede or microfiber cloth...
and if you have a fabric market near by, you can buy a yard or more for the price of what they charge.

    things to look for:
    1) 100% polyester peached to a "faux suede" texture. micro peached is nice but that process does not pull up the fibers as much to give more buffer barrier against dirt and other parts.
    2) density of the fabric.. fold over and look closely at edge, you should not see the base weave texture of the fabric.

these are very nice in that they don't fray at the edges when simply cut with scissors. tho the peached microfiber fabric may fray because the fibers dont lock themselves as much due to shorter fuzz...

when cutting, use extremely sharp scissors and cut big... then trim down to size.

better cutting method is to use masking tape along the edges of the cutting surface, draw your cut lines, use a very sharp exacto blade with metal straight edge, applying a LOT of down pressure on the ruler, especially cutting near the ends/corners.

if you want to buy retail, go to www.radtech.com
THIS is a very good quality of polyester faux suede.

also, i do not recommend using those mouse pad + screen saver thingys...
    1) why buy these performance mouse that glides well and use it over a soft and yet not so friction-less surface such as polyester faux suede?
    2) it adds to the thickness... anything... i mean ANYTHING, apply enough pressure and over duration of time, it will be abrasive... look at your metal watch frame that you've had for a while... combo of sweat and skin contact eats into the metal's nice chrome finish...

i've had paper and it was enough to mess up the clearcoat of my previous voodoo laptop.

How are knicks/scratches/etc caused by the keyboard on the screen? Does the keyboard actually touch the screen? Aren't laptops build to leave a little space in between so that doesn't happen?

I was considering buying the 3-in-1 because having a travel mousepad, microfiber cloth, and a screen protector is very convenient, but i'm thinking now, does that make the screen touch the cloth? Add thickness? etc.

They are designed to not touch but many notebooks do, especially when traveling if any pressure is applied.

Usually not since its super thin (1 mm or 1.5mm) and you have either a bezel popping out or rubber knobs

Umm.... registering on a forum for the purpose of posting a link to your business to advertise. That's pretty much the dictionary definition of a forum spammer.

Yep, it does, on many laptops. The screen frame is flexible enough to allow vibration or compression from other items in the bag to allow the screen to contact the keyboard. I use a piece of lint free cloth I got from a surplus shop, which is similar to the material used on CD sleeves.

A piece of fabric cut to size works good. A sheet of paper is not as good, but it's better than nothing. A piece cut from Kleenex Viva paper towel is good if the width is adequate for your monitor.
