It appears that this is the big question for many new users and veterans of the laptop market. There are a lot of choices in what to carry your laptop on the market. They range from nylon to leather to aluminum cases. For those people who carry your laptop daily: What do you use to carry your laptop?

I use laptop knapsack designed to carry my rig. It's made by High Sierra and fits my Acer perfectly. Has room for all the stuff I bring with it, laptop stand, wireless USB mouse, headphones, manuals, cd's etc. and doesn't feel heavy at all when I have it all packaged up in the bag.
The best thing for me is that it doesn't look like a knapsack that's designed to carry a laptop which is good from a security standpoint and frees up a hand from carrying an actual bag, that's important for me.

However, I will be reviewing a new sleeve http://www.roadwired.com/store/Product.cfm?categoryid=1&Productid=89 and a backpack right after that http://mobileedge.com/items.asp?cid=3&scid=3&pid=5 so I'll have to get back to you in a few weeks to let you know what I like best.

I see a carrying case/bag as situational. In the context of travelling some may be minimalists and opt for a sleeve or sleeve within an easily accessible carrying "device" to facilitate the Post 9-11 era of airport security. When travelling locally it appears that a backpack would be more convenient than a conventional laptop case. I personally think that the saddle bags are stylish but foresee future back pain from the carrying something so asymmetrically. The traditional laptop case is nice but is recognized by techies and thieves alike that within the leather/nylon encasement is a $1-$2k piece of equipment.
I am looking into the various sleeves personally and favor the Shoreline cases since it would protect the outer surface and allow me to work on the laptop while still being nestled in the case. The other sleeves are great, though, for impact resistance from accidental falls etc which are inevitable.
I have a conventional laptop case but I prefer the Laptop Backpacks which are more protective from the weather and impact these days and distributes the weight of the backpack to lead to less back problems in the long run. Long and short, I plan to have different cases for different situations.

i use the targus slam backpack, i can actually fit 3 laptops securly in their own padded compartments. the bags main compartment can fit up to a 15.4" laptop so 15"s can go in no problem. the removeable sleeve can fit a DTR 15.4" (dell xps comes to mind and i have tested it with the xps), the 3rd is kind of a built in sleeve to the biggest compartment of the bag, it will fit a 12-14" laptop with no problems. there are TONS of pockets in this backpack and it is very comfortable even for periods.

I'm looking into purchasing a Crumpler Team Player, but in the interim, I'm actually using a Tracer sleeve to house my Acer 8100. It's their 17" model. I pop that into my Dakine knapsack, a snug fit, and lug the whole set up around like that. I don't recommend this. I feel really uneasy with the lack of padding and weatherproofing.
The sleeve on it's own is not horrible, but I wouldn't suggest it if you have other high end options like the shinza or booq sleeves. It's side padding is inadequate, but it's relatively rigid and padded on the front and back with interior compartments for papers. It does double as a nice sort of table for your lap to rest the computer on, though.
I'll chime in when and if I pick up the Team Player this weekend. -
I always carry my laptop in something that doesn't make it look like I'm carrying a laptop. City life at it's best. There was a good trade at the raliway station for getting mugged with mobile phones and laptops.

I picked up the Crumpler Team Player sunday, and I'm mightily impressed. There are a number of brilliant but often overthought design elements, such as the clips built into the straps that eliminate annoying dangling excess strap.
Another highlight is the removable sleeve. The designers saw fit to make it truly useable outside of the pack by designing the fastening system to be dual purpose: it doubles as a securing point when in the bag and a handle when used on it's own. It's velcro closures are also designed to maximize contact area when used for fastening, but fold closed to prevent annoying velcro clothing damage or general obnoxiousness. Things like this show evidence of thoughtful utilitarian design. Dangling straps and exposed velcro are overlooked in the majority of designs, but in the Crumpler bag, they were taken care of. They're just a couple of examples of the care Crumpler takes to make the best bag humanly possible.
There really is a lot of room in this backpack, and this is coming from an "art student" who a) carries not only a laptop but a lot of traditional art supplies and b) who has always sought the worlds largest non-homeless looking backpack. Having used the Team Player to lug things home for the weekend, I can vouch for it's large capacity.

I used to carried a I4000 in a UPS bubble bag....they were free back in the days...why waste money on a sleve...and I put it in the same bag....Had this bag for a bit more than 3 yrs... it's great... -

Hey guys on this topic, i want to know what case my ex was using. i "think" it was the neoprene but just to be sure:
it was like a stretchy fabric that fit comfortably around the laptop, enough for a tight fitting and that was it. i struggle to find them anywhere and would like one []

Hey Everyone,
To bring my notebook on the road in my work truck I use one of those alumnium, I think, and composite sided cases around $60.00 from Staples. After a year and a half traveling all over New England down into Maryland and Virginia. It really takes the abuse that a soft-sided one wouldn't. If I am traveling on vacation in my own vehicle I will use a back pack type that doesn't scream out NOTEBOOK IN HERE STEAL ME!!!

After a lot of searching on line I've found a great website offering a huge range of notebook carrying cases.
http://www.ebags.com/
You can search by manufacturer, by price range and by type of case. The website offers description, customer reviews ( a great feature!) and lots of images to zoom in on.
I finally settled on the Laptrap from Shaun Jackson Design
http://www.sjdesign.com
It claims to accommodate a 14" by 11.5" by 2" notebook and I've put it to the test with my LW60 LG notebook which measures 13.9" by 10.5". The Laptrap fits my LW60 like a glove, surrounding it with a sturdy rigid casing. The laptrap is designed with three carrying features. There is a strap for a shoulder bag, a well attached handle at the top of the case and (best of all) a harness that attaches to let you wear it like a back pack. The back pack harness clips to four rings on the outside of the case with well made metal clips. The actual harness is made from parachute harness material and is moulded to fit your shoulders and upper back. Two external pockets for accessories hold mouse, extension cord, power adapter and with room to spare. And as claimed by the manufacturer you could take the whole thing and put it inside another carrying case if you needed to.
The laptrap has a unique design that will allow you to unfold the case on a table top (or your lap) and use the notebook while it still rests in the carrying case. Now I have to admit that my LW 60 is so snug a fit that the easiest way to get it in and out of the case is to place it into the computer compartment upside down. This really isn't a bother at all since that way when I'm wearing the laptrap as a back pack the bottom of the notebook rests against my back. With a smaller notebook with a 14" screen or less you wouldn't need to do this and could place the computer in the case the way it was meant to be.
All in all I think this is a great bag! I had tried a Kennsington messenger bag that had the same option to wear it as a back pack but the bag had so little protection for the notebook that I constantly worried about setting it down on things (especially the floor of the bus!)
Check out the rest of the Shaun Jackson Design line up. The make larger versions of notebook carrying cases that can also convert to backpacks like the "Back Office". Way cool designs that are built to last.

Have a samsonite rolling bag, use that when carrying long distances (such as when I fly) but for normaly use it contained a sleeve in the bag, and I use that.
Works fairly nicely.

Well after many review reads, i decided on this:
http://www.ebags.com/sumdex/neo_metro_transit_ii/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=19524
It seems to be just the ticket i need, as i am looking for a more of a minimalist approach, i just need to carry my 7426GX and the power adapter. It's padded in all the right places, plus i paid $38.17 tax and all. Shipping was freeI just ordered it so i should get it this weekend at the latest.
Gateway 7426GX

ATI Mobility 9600 w/Omega drivers.

...And the kitchen sink someplace too -
I'm a big fan of Booq Bags so I use a PowerSleeve17 for my PowerBook and a VyperXM Sleeve for my newly acquired VAIO S460. The Vyper Sleeve can fit into most of my standard messenger style bags and accompanies text books and notebooks in my favorite NorthFace backpack.
17" POWERBOOK: 1.33GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 80 GB 5400 RPM HDD, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme & Bluetooth
SONY VAIO S460/B: 1.73GHz Sonoma, 2GB 533MHz DDR2, 80GB 5400 RPM HDD, Intel Pro 2200
DELL DIMENSION 8300: 2.8 GHz P4 w/ HT, 800 MHz FSB, 1GB RAM, Sony 17" LCD -
I'm thinking about getting a MobileEdge Select Backpack (with a Booq Vyper sleeve or a Sumdex Impact Sleeve); the MobileEdge seem to have very good reviews and they don't look like a computer case.
I commute on the train every day so having something that is understated is very important.

I'm using Tekstyl's Tekmod XL, and surprisingly it does fit the Inspiron 9300. RadTech also sells it, but they state that it doesn't fit the 9300. Its great and makes the 9300 seem so light and portable. Plus I like being able to use it without taking it out of the bag.
-
I carry mine in an old beat up looking laptop bag with no logos or anything made out of plastics and nylon. I've been using it for a while so it looks pretty dingy, but the durability seems pretty good and the size allows me to carry textbooks and other stuff as well.

Hello everyone,
I plan on purchasing a zeroshock laptop sleeve. However, I'm not sure if it stretches since my notebook is just a tiny bit bigger. I was wondering if these sleeves stretch in anyway so I can use it for my laptop.
Zeroshock sleeve
Zeroshock interior dimensions: 330 x 45 x 260 mm
LG LM50 dimensions: 331x274x26.4mm
Thanks in advance,

I have TM 4601, and was thinking to buy that same bag too:
http://www.verkkokauppa.com/popups/prodinfo.php?id=4033
but Im worried about the dimensions. It's said that its inside measure is 36x28x6 cm but my laptop is 36,4 x 27,9 x 3,89 cm
So my laptop is only 4mm too wide :-S (36 <-> 36,4) It's only 4mm!Will it fit into that bag or not? Any ideas?
