lol i don't think its "on sale".... i believe that was the price samsung quoted for retail sale.

looks great but samsung and their glossiness..... you can't stare at that thing without eyeprints!

I am considering this or the Alienware Optx 21.5'' for gaming, so I too would like to know if there's any input lag.

by onsale i meant "available for purchase" :)

I just bought it at bestbuy today because they have a 14 day return policy, so I'm going to test the input lag with an arcade stick, SF4 (PC), and a 60 FPS camera. I'll get the button press and screen in frame and run a few tests, counting frames between button press and impact using known frame data.

long story short: I'll let you know tomorrow.

It looks amazing, but for some reason, the VGA to DVI-D looks better than HDMI to HDMI.

After going to bestbuy with the intent of picking up an HP monitor to go with my MackBook Pro... I saw this thing and now I really want it- best looking screen on display by far. Looks like Best Buy is the only ones who have it until latter in November... so no getting it any cheaper on amazon yet. O well... I plan on going to buy this today.

there was a review on future looks and it captured a pic of ghosting on street fighter IV. About the HDMI thing, it seems a lot of samsung monitor lcd models have flaky native HDMI support. Do you have a native HDMI input on your graphic's card? or are you using an dvi-HDMI adapter > HDMI cable > into XL2370?

I had a problem acquiring a camera.. I actually forgot to ask my mom to borrow hers, haha.

I should have it tested tomorrow. As for HDMI, it's just.. blurry and not very sharp.

blurry... ahh crap. This is pretty much 90% of why I want to get this monitor, to connect via hdmi through my native hdmi out on my gpu (desktop). Does anyone know of a monitor of this caliber that doesn't have flaky hdmi input? I noticed on newegg reviews for the similar 2370HD people had HDMI quality issues, but were fine enough with the other inputs to keep it. Must be a samsung thing>??

why not just use standard VGA? i srsly dont see the difference between HDMI vs VGA on monitors. for my 360 ofc HDMI since it carries audio + video, but a monitor is only for video, so why HDMI?

theoretically, hdmi is faster because you wouldn't have to translate an analog signal to digital. But I'm not noticing any difference besides the aforementioned blurriness on HDMI, but that may be due to my computer or other settings.

how abt the refresh rate ? if i am not wrong, most of it are stuck at 60hz so it kinda of sucks if u r doing competitive gaming when fps can easily goes up to 100+. and the monitor can't support :(

omg 99% of computer monitors are 60hz... plus when you add all the eye candy of AA+AF and boost all high settings, most gamers (excluding rich people that can actually buy high performance components) would love to reach 60hz on more demanding games (no, I'm not talking about left4dead).

you have this gripe about using VGA vs HDMI, yet you use it on your sammy. Why? cause its there!......... that's what I want, I have a freakin HDMI cable why not use it. I'm trying to understand why you would post what you did.... just dumb

I tried HDMI again today and ... weird problems.

At 1920x1080 (native res) using HDMI, it cut off a large portion of the desktop. Basically, it stretched it past the actual resolution. I'm not sure if it's my computer's HDMI or the monitor, I'll test with a PS3 tomorrow when I do frame lag testing. I was unable to fix the problem with the monitor's drivers and menu. This would be the reason I noticed text was blurry - it wasn't using native res.

With VGA/DVI it was and is fine.

Again, it might be my computer that has crappy HDMI-out. Maybe I'll pickup a displayport -> HDMI converter for my MBP and test that. I know it's not hte HDMI cable, as I've used it on a 1920x1200 monitor and it output perfectly.

Just bought this monitor. I really like it... i'm not a gamer so I dont care about whatever it is you guys care about related to that. I'm using VGA now but will use DVI with my macbook pro. Don't see a need to use HDMI... isnt HDMI and DVI the same (except when it comes to sound)? So what's the difference... hearing bad things about the hdmi port so i have no prob running on DVI.

I have no problem with others opting to use VGA or DVI (if that's all you have). BUT when you buy a product, don't you want to make sure all of its features work and are accessable at anytime? When samsung chose to incorporate an HDMI port, that cost money (royalties), so they pay and you pay. You might as well get the P2370 version (~$30 cheaper), as it has the same exact specs, save for HDMI and LED backlight (come on, they're both TN panels!). What I'm trying to get at is, be a smart buyer and not one comming up with dumb excuses.

i have an ASUS VH236H monitor with all ports, and a samsung 50" plasma. jeez. the monitor isnt gonig to be used for sound, while my tv set will (i dont setup my laptop with my bose cuz i dont really need it and its a pain in the butt to reach around to get the optical cable).

so **** u, there is a reason. in pure video content, I dont see a difference between HDMI vs VGA. on my plasma, i use HDMI to convey the audio signal so i cna actually hear something...n00b

also...post above...the XL2370 is freakin slim...did u not notice that? it uses LED backlighting and the P2370 only has a DVI port. the XL is my choice, the LED makes it brighter, the more ports have a variety ie ps3 (HDMI) + 360 (VGA) + pc (DVI), so this monitor can be used for all 3 main gaming machines. ur post are pretty dumb IMO.

Ok, good news and bad news.

I tested with my PS3 on SSF2T:HDR and it displays 1080p perfectly. Tested with a blu-ray movie too and it was crystal clear, the menus were very sharp. This means it's my M17x that has problems outputting HDMI, the XL2370 is not at fault here.

Bad news: 6 frames of lag on SFIV PS3 HDMI -> HDMI in 720p (highest SFIV goes).

9-10 frames of lag on SFIV PC DVI-A in 1080p.

Changed it to "response time: fastest"... CNET said they didn't know what that did and samsung hasn't responded, but I had a feeling it'll improve frame lag.
It didn't, still 9-10 frames of lag on PC and DVI-A. Maybe it'll matter with HDMI or DVI-D, but neither work with my particular computer, and i dont want to move my monitor again to test on console.

For you FPS gamers, that means you get an automatic 150-166ms of lag by using this monitor, regardless of internet connection, which is cumulative with actual internet lag.

While the monitor is amazingly light, beautiful and produces amazing images, I'm considering returning it because of the lag.

Note that unless you play FPS or Fighting games, you most likely won't notice the lag. Movies will be synced if you're outputting HDMI then run audio from the TV to your speakers. RTS and RPGs don't require split second timing like that. Office work and surfing the web won't be affected at all by 10 frame lag.

Unfortunately, I play both FPS and fighting games and I live in Hawaii, so I already get an automatic 75-100ms lag to California servers.

Hey you started this whole sidebar when you mentioned the fact that I was complaining about HDMI quality as a primary monitor for my computer. Yes I know HDMI also transmits audio, which would be useless for the XL2370 because it has no speakers. However, when you build something if you are the company, or buy something if you are the consumer, you should be able to use all features in any combination with all compatible peripherals NO EXCEPTION. This is what makes a complete product IMO.

If you take a look at the available ports, I believe there is an audio out and digital audio out. So if I choose to hook up via HDMI, can't I also transmit the sound by hooking up audio throught the above mentioned ports? The whole point of all of this when I first posted is to be able to use any and all combinations (and this example makes perfect sense). You need to start thinking your post through before you submit, cause you just end up looking dumb (as I've mentioned before).

just cuz something is there doesnt mean you need to use it. some ppl would call it useless features, ie HDMI mite be useless in *some* cases, like this one if you are only using 1 input device. HDMI is useful for things like ps3/xbox for transmitting audio/video signal. a GPU doesnt send audio signal so there is no point. i dont see why some1 would WANT to use HDMI from a GPU output. maybe becuz of that digital vs analog signal conversion, idk. the HDMI port works, its a issue with the computer itself in the case of the XL2370. there is always bound to be flaws in products, name me 1 electronic product that you would call "complete". there mite be no compatibility problems, but that doesnt mean a device is "complete".

and yes, to point for HDMI in this monitor, it is there to add another input, so you can choose to use any of 3 inputs. like my situation, you could put all 3 devices on 1 monitor. but say YOU are just using a desktop GPU, and nothing else, why not just use DVI or VGA? if in doubt of problems, just go with the easy no-****up solution. the HDMI port works as it should in this monitor, feel free to use if you want. i will sit here using VGA thankyou very much.

BTW - read your own sentences b4 you post..."Hey you started this whole sidebar when you mentioned the fact that I was complaining about HDMI quality as a primary monitor for my computer." try make sense out of that...

Did you really just say that? Again, you are paying for something, why not use it.

Not "entirely" true. Nvidia GPUs come bundled with a small spdif cable that connects to the motherboard so you can send both video and audio through the hdmi cable. ATI GPUs have the audio built in natively, so no need for the spdif cable. A lot of people build htpc's and they usually buy a gpu that has a native HDMI port (many new gpu's being sold have them), or motherboard equipped with a HD capable onboard gpu (ion/9400). So you are leaving out a sector of builders.

Also Asus and Auzentech released blu-ray truHD soundcards a few months ago. Both require you connect your gpu to the soundcard via hdmi and then to a monitor via hdmi to output truHD blu-ray losses audio. So there are other applications. If someone wanted to use this monitor, it has digital audio out, so despite having no speakers, it is still possible to plug in your own setup.

yes you are paying for something. and you can use it. im not saying not to, it is your choice. in this example, it appears that the HDMI output from the laptop was wonky. but even if it wasnt, and the HDMI from the samsung was "bad", then you would not use it. AND you would acknowledge, "WOW samsung this is your premium monitor, and you guys couldn't even manage to have a decent HDMI input." i can tell you, my G51 has a firewire, i never ever used it. ive had computer with DVI, i never used it. you DONT NEED to use everything that is included with a product, IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO.

and yes, there are GPU that have onboard sound, most ppl would detest that tho. a HTPC should use a creative x-fi for good sound quality in a home theater scenario. even if they dont, i doubt A LOT of them even have GPUs that have the spdif cable connected to the mobo. again, i cant generalize all ppl, but its my assumption that most dont receive an audio out signal from the GPU.

and yes, i do agree, this monitor doesnt seem very good to be samsung's PREMIUM monitor, and priced @ 300usd makes me think twice about getting it. i think i mite as well get a nice SVA dell panel and pay the extra 100bucks.

That's because you're not watching media with a high enough content. When you get to that point, you'll notice the difference.
Indeed. That means something else is wrong. I'm not totally sure what you mean by blurry, but you may need to adjust the picture in some way.

The difference is analog vs digital. LCDs do better with digital content and lag less using DVI-D and HDMI.

I think I need to be a little more clear. I was looking to buy the monitor to use it through HDMI. Therefore, since it is a feature, I would like to use it in ANY application. I've listed a thorough example in my previous posts. Yes the XL2370 has no speakers, and yes HDMI also sends audio, but the monitor also has optical audio out, so I would connect my speakers set-up that way.

I can understand where you are comming from when you say don't need to use every port on the monitor or computer (firewire in your case). At least we agree on this. BUT when I do need to use it, if it is there, I should be able to use the HDMI for my primary monitor. This is my whole arguement, and for some reason you are not getting it.

As for the GPU sound comment, clearly you are not a person that's very competent when it comes to hardware. Do you read reviews? Do you read technology being used on GPUs? GPU's don't have onboard audio you noob, but they can transmit it along with the video signal when using HDMI. So yeah, alot of people would detest onboard audio because they have none, geez.

Also your comment on Creative X-Fi audio card solutions for HTPC builders... (shakes head), you are also wrong. Creative hasn't released any native true HD audio sound cards that transmit and reproduce lossless blu-ray sound. They are still stuck on Dolby Digital and DTS that can only transmit DVD quality audio. The previously mentioned Asus and Azentech cards are the only ones on the market for true blu-ray audio in Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.

For the spdif comment, if they are using like the ion, then no, a spdif cable would not be needed since the motherboard integrates the sound onboard whether or not you use HDMI. If using a seperate GPU, then if they wanted to get sound out, the mini spdif cable supplied with nvidia gpu's need to be connected to the motherboard IF using HDMI. If you aren't, then you don't need to connect it, because you can use the onboard audio jacks to get sound out.

To summerize, do your homework. You obviously don't know a whole lot about building computers (creative x-fi... really? great for games though) or know what connects to what (spdif), and when you should use it (spdif).

@ SACH7002, if you can't tell visually, here's another reason as stated by Koshinn... less lag using native DVI-D and HDMI. So there is a performance gain.

i meant gpu carrying audio signal, ofc gpu cant have onboard sound, hence the name Graphical proccessing Unit. the sound will be on the motherboard, but i was talking about using the gpu to carry sound over sound, where SPDIF comes into play. i know x-fi isnt that great, but i doubt any HTPC owner/competent home theater enthuaist will use onboard-sound from the mobo. but i see the comment about video lag, that i understand, obviously i will never see the difference, coming from a person who thinks 40fps is as smooth as >=60fps...my eyes don't notice those subtle changes.

and no, i dont research aobut stuff like this, i dont "do homework" for a forum... i have a life besides going here, i have to still go to skool, complete hw, maintain family/friends balance, play basball after skool etc. only when im doing hw on the computer do log inot forums to help counter the boring hw. im def. not a computer tech. expert, i barely know how to complete program html, im still in computer class. i learned most of what i know through this forum so dont expect me to research all this, forums are meant to make people learn new things, which you have done today for me, so thank you.

ofc. that 800 letters of BB code will not fit the stupidity of a 16yr old. we will need an entire sach7002.wikia.com for that wont we?

    @ SACH7002

I go to school also, but I happen to know a little bit because I build computers for friends (and I get recommended to others) in my spare time to earn money while I go to school. Since I'm only part time this semester, I've had a chance to look up different parts to recommend. This is just another product I was looking into (but for myself).

22, almost done! :) my last year comming up, I couldn't make up my mind whether it was computers or health field... that cost me like a year. The economy sucks....... right when I'm targeted to get a job the economy goes down the crapper. So there aren't too many computer job/careers that are open, let alone worth persuing.... but there will ALWAY be health careers and people ALWAY need healthcare. I was alway a "everything" sports kind of guy, and relied solely on console gaming until my friend showed me how much better games looked on pc... so I took it up as a second hobby when I first started college, been hooked ever since.

haha looks like future me. i was the console gamer, now that i my eyes have opened to the wonderful world of PC, mouse, and ahem...trrtz, i love pc. i know sports is never gonna get my anywhere in life, but its a hobby of mine to continue to play baseball, an attempt to recreate cricket, which i used to play in australia...its funny how my computer teacher is like "the computer whizzes are the ones that are gonna land a job, because most are afraid of the hi-tech job". seems quite the opposite as i have observed from ppl. ur skool = college = hard, my skool = high skool = nub/easy. its really hard to relate to the older men in forums/let alone argue with them when ur 16 yr old, so im the srryz 4 trying to argue with u haha
