So I'm awaiting my brand new Alienware m15x, bought a razer deathadder mouse to go with it, as well as Bose on-ear headphones (new at a price TOO good to pass up).
Now I'm wondering... I've got a few days left in Cali... and I want to know is there anything else I might want to buy while i'm at it, or something I need in terms of accessories and gear that would go with the current setup. I'm replacing everythign I have pretty much since they're all 4 years old now. And while I'm in the USA its the best time to buy things.
Let me know,
Cheers!

Well, it's hard to say what you actually need before you actually have the laptop and have started using it... but perhaps a laptop cooler?

With a mouse like the DeathAdder, you'll probably want a good mousing surface. Using it on a bare wooden desk just doesn't do it justice.
I'll recommend what I'm using right now, the Razer eXactMat. It's a hard anodized aluminum mouse pad usable on both sides. The Speed side is ultra slick, and it's the one I prefer. My DeathAdder glides across it like ice. The other side, Control, is heavily textured and is good for people who like to make really fine motions. It's good for Photoshop work too; it really helps you move pixel by pixel. It also comes with a pretty nice shape-matching memory foam wrist rest.
If you're more into traditional soft mouse mats, there's the Razer Goliathus, which comes in both Speed and Control editions, although unlike the eXactMat, not both at once. It comes in three sizes. There's also the SteelSeries QcK series, available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, although they only have one texture.
If portability is a concern, Razer makes the Kabuto, a rollable soft mouse mat that can also double as a screen protector for your laptop when shut. If you have extremely limited desk space, check out the Sphex, which isn't a mouse pad so much a desktop skin. It's paper thin, but has a nice smooth texture, and has a mildly adhesive backing so it will stay put.
And as MidnightSun mentioned, a cooling pad is never a bad idea. -
Extended battery? I wouldn't buy any portable device without a backup power supply.

The M15X is a laptop...it has its own battery. Granted, it's not an extremely long life, but a backup power source nonetheless.

I suppose, but I imagine anyone using the M17X has ready access to a power source. The battery should provide plenty of time to save stuff and shut down in the event of power failure, but probably shouldn't be used as a primary power source.

Did you compare, read reviews?
Sennheiser high end models often get good reviews.
Not a fan of those "on ear" ones, so not keeping on top of them.
Else - get the laptop first, then add "kit" to it. -
Otherwise I wouldn't have bought the Bose one if it wasn't cheaper.
Like I said.. reason is I'll only have 2 days after I get the laptop in the states to get new equipment.. so if I get ideas on what to get I'll get it.
@Krane: I don't think I'll need to get extended battery... apart from using the net for an hour at airports, so I'll probably not need an extended battery life as it'll be plugged in.
@Mastershroom: Mouse mat! Omg thats the one thing I most deffo need and I completely forgot! I've only got a limited space, so most probably Sphex will do or something. -
What about the pre packed Mousepad that comes with Alienware laptops... has anyone tried that to see if its any good?
-
Um... more games?
Maybe if you're paranoid, an invisible shield? http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/alienware-area-51-m15x-cases-covers-skins-shields.php (although spraying water near a brand new machine may freak some out)
I don't think any machine but a Mac actually needs it to stay in reasonable shape, but I'm sure some might want their price and joy to stay pristine. -
I don't think I'm that paranoid... but sounds interesting. I'd be more interested in getting that for my Zune HD as opposed to my AW.
What else should I get/do I need?
