Ok so mainly im looking into getting a new mouse. The two main mice companys im looking at are Razer or Cyborg R.A.T.

The highest I want to pay it around $65. So i was mainly looking at either the Razer Imperator Battlefield 3 Edition or either a RAT 5 or 7. (more of a RAT 5 because of cost)

On amazon I can get both mice (besides the RAT 7) around $55-65. The RAT 7 would require me to throw in about another $10-20. Which leads me to questions...

So a big question I have is, is the RAT 7 really worth the extra money? I mean obviously 5600 dpi is not needed so 4000 is fine. Also I really don't think the adjustments is really that necessary...?

My second question is, if I went with Razer, which mouse should I get? I really like the Imperator BF3 Edition. But im open to any suggestions.

*I guess I also should add that I mostly will use the mouse for FPS game and some MMO, but mainly FPS games

    Thanks.

Just my 2 cents, I think the Imperator is known to be somewhat small. If you haven't yet, I would check them out in person if possible.

If you have average hand size, I would look into razer deathadder. If you already know RAT5 is comfortable, then I would just go with that. Deathadder and RAT5 are comparable, so you can't go wrong with either one.

I think for the price range, its either gonna be RAT5 or deathadder. customizability or not I think its the major difference. I know deathadder is the tried and true mouse, and RAT5 is good, but not used as much. You can't go wrong with either.

Do you care about function over form? You know what wanting a mouse that looked cool got me? A $120 mouse that required a dock to charge with a sensor that skipped all over the place. Needless to say, it went back to the store 3 days later. I don't know what your definition of looking good is but I don't understand how someone would think one of the RAT mice looks better than some of the high end Logitech mice. My advice to you would be to start shopping for a mouse that is comfortable, has good tracking and built to last.

By the way, you really don't think this looks good?

I think there are many gamers on here who enjoy a mx518. Give it a look, even though it's not exactly modern art.

It's been a while since I had my MX518 but I had many good times with it. It is one of my favorite mice I've ever used. In fact, if I had a desktop, I'd still probably use one. Sure was a great piece of hardware.

Go with the Razer DeathAdder. It's much better than the Imperator; its optical sensor is one of the best out there in terms of tracking reliability and perfect control speed.

Imperator tracking is not unusable, but it has the faint whiff of suck about it - in much the same way as the RATs. Minor pad / surface variations can cause surprising amounts of jitteriness / jumping, unless you're at a fairly low dpi (an optical sensor can manage non-jumpy performance beyond the reliable dpi's of the Imperator IMO).

It's shape is wrong for me as well, but then that's a personal thing. I need something that slopes at the front a lot more like the Logitechs MX's.

The G9x, I've had no serious tracking issues with - but having said that I haven't used it that often - I really, really hate the shape, it causes me pain. Even as a claw it's just wrong for me, too flat.

I agree man. I tried the G9X out for a couple days but I had to return it because it didn't feel right for the same reason you have. It's just too flat in the front. I also have a claw type grip but it's not a full blown claw grip. It's kind of in between claw and palm. The G9X was a little odd as it differentiated from Logitech's normal design for it's gaming mice. On a personal level, I'm just glad that Logitech's flagship mice like the MX Performance and the G700 have always had the same design and probably always will. It seems like it's the only mouse I can ever find to fit my grip perfectly. Probably because it's the same shape I first started gaming with 10 years ago with my MX700.

I have a friend who has this mouse "Razer Imperator Battlefield 3 Edition" and he is very pleased with it. I played some games with it and I like it a lot.

I have to say the logitech g9x. If you palm your mouse, and if your hand fits right, it is one of the best mice. I went through three mice returns before getting the g9x. Barely liked razer at all, though I heard the death adder was nice. The g9x is very customizable too, which i love. Two grips, a weight system, on the fly dpi switching, color changing lights (gimmicky i know), and profile switching on the fly. I say its worth a try, you can palm the mouse through the plastic shell to see if it suits you. Its only really good as a palm mouse though. The "Butt" of the g9x is very bulbous.

I'll be the dissenting voice here and put my vote in for the Microsoft Sidewinder X8. Picked one up a year and a half ago and haven't looked back. It's big and comfortable, and tracks like butter. It is a wireless mouse, but I haven't experienced any lag at all in 1.5 years.

I believe MS stopped making them, which is a shame, but you can pick them up on eBay or elsewhere for pretty cheap. The mouse is rechargeable and has a magnetic charge tether to the RF base that plugs into your computer.

Feature-wise it's excellent for sure. I stuck with it long enough to make a different butt for it :D , but the button profile is what I can't change and what doesn't work for me. Defo worth a try though, but... yeah, any twinges and you should swap to something else.

One other major issue with the RAT by the way that's worth mentioning, is that if you actually use the palm adjustment to set the rear palmrest back for a palm grip, or if you're a clawer with bigger hands, the mouse's balance is put out of kilter because the rear skate is so small and well to the front of the mouse, relatively speaking, and also the additional weights go almost directly over the rear skate, not improving the balance - so the front end has a tendency to lift off the surface. That causes the pointer to move a little every time you click, because by clicking you're bringing the mouse down to the surface again - and that causes clicks to be misregistered / ignored. This is just one element of what I said about worthless adjustment on the other thread(s), but while other equally worthless adjustment has largely just ergonomic implications, this problem has functional implications.

(And if anyone's wondering why I dump on the RATs so much, it's because I really want to like them because of the way they look - but they're just too flawed in terms of function / ergonomics.)
