I'm looking to buy a 19"+ lcd monitor that perferably has 1280 x 1024 resolution where I can also plug my xbox360 or gamecube or wii into it. My laptop is currently a 1680 x 1050 and I can't stand the small textsize. I've tried everything and the text size can't be made larger without compromising some other usage(such as overlapping buttons).

Is there such monitor that fit my description and isn't too expensive?

Your best bet is to look for a 19" LCD HDTV.

Look for either 1440x900 or less as a resolution. You will most likely have trouble finding a monitor that isn't widescreen.

    That's your best bet.

I'd suggest a 20-inch widescreen Dell monitor. Has the same native resolution of your laptop, but everything would be bigger, of course. Alternatively, you can go for a 1440x900 19-incher (where everything would be even bigger).

1440x900 on a 19 inch widescreen is the closest to what you asked for (1280x1024 standard screen). Unless over 80% of your work is writing documents, I would suggest getting a widescreen monitor.

Have you tried messing with the DPI ?
I would do that before buying a new monitor.

My advice is to go and look for yourself in stores at different resolution monitors. Also, keep in mind that there is a big difference between viewing on a desktop LCD and a laptop, first of all, the LCD is much larger, and depending on how you use your laptop (on a desk, lap, etc) it may not be much farther away from your eyes.

Go to a store and take a look at the size of text from the distance that you will have the monitor on your desk.

Well, i've messed with a ton of dpi already. As for stores, i really don't have too much time to find a store to go to since I'm busy with college work. However, I seems that I haven't had much liking to widescreen and think only standard screen would suit my liking the most.

I'm hoping to just buy a keyboard and buy a screen. I really liked the resolution for the old CRT screen since it's very easy on my eyes.

In terms of widescreen, which resolution seen to give the biggest font size and biggest overall icon size. I'm using a 1600x1000 and it's very very small.

    another question:
If somebody ask you for a monitor recommendation and the criteria is that it has large images (noting the fact that the user is use to a 800x600 resolution on a 17" screen), lcd (to fit in a college dorm room), inputs for an xbox 360 or other consoles, and perferably 19"+ (again for bigger images), what would you recommend?
