As the title states, what is considered a "gamer's accessory" and which ones are needed to game competitively?

By gamer accessory I mean things like headset, G5 mouse, exactMat, G15 keyboard, etc. Throw any out there that you consider is for gaming.

Then, out of those, which ones are necessities? Like, is the G5 mouse necessity for competitive gaming?

I'm just curious, i'm a pretty good gamer (when I used to play, top druid on my server in 2v2 Arena in WoW) but I have a simple 5 year old 3 button mouse, logitech MX 5000 (I used an even crappier one back then but it broke), a bead wrist support for my mouse (from wal-mart), and a soft mousepad with 4 puppy golden retrievers (lol, from wal-mart too.) I just recently got a creative fatal1ty headset, and I like it.

My mouse is dying on me, I like to use a claw grip, any suggestions?

i've never really bought into the whole "gaming mouse" thing. personally, i go with a mouse that comfortably fits my gamin style. i actually prefer to game on laptops, so an external keyboard isn't necessary.

mouse pads make a HUGE difference. more than a mouse, to me. i'm a low sensitivity player, so a "control" type pad is a must. i use the razer exactmat/pad with a regular logitech mx400.

if u are doin alot of gamin, on a laptop. i would recommend a nice cooler or stand to help with thermal control. as far as coolers for gaming & "power laptops", the cryo LX is gonna be yur best choice. when i need portability. i just use my targus x-stand, for passive coolin.

Mouse all the way. With a bad mouse, FPS games blow

VX Revolution is not a good gaming mouse. None of the MX/VX is. They are better than most however.

For gaming any Razer or Logitech mouse with DPI >= 1600. I am assuming gaming as FPS here.

I don't do FPS games much, just CS Source, but barely. In fact, haven't even installed it on a fresh install. I mainly play blizzard games, WC3 right now... might start WoW again.

Back in my DOD league days what I considered important were:

Mouse, MUST BE COMFORTABLE, and perform the way I need it it
    Mouse pad, need speed
    a wrist comfort pad

grips on mouse buttons to make sure i dont lose it

KEYBOARD!! anti ghosting is very helpful in league play/pro play
Screen as well. a VERY adjustable screen with minimal ghosting. (I prefer CRT for this) as in darker maps bump up brightness and it wont be dark in the dark.

    Comfortable chair is last

i noticed u named the exact mat. i would recommend the exactmat/pad, if yur laptop will be stationary. the exactmat is made out of aluminum and each side has a different "speed style" coating. if u are lookin for a pad that can roll up, then don't get the exactmat. :p

    Actually, that's all I play ^.^

What do you recommend for a mouse? My logitech optical 5 year old mouse is breaking, so I need a new one. I don't plan to play FPS, so I don't require those type easy swap dpi mouses. My mouse is very simple and I claw grip it because my wrist is raised about an inch with my wrist rest. Some people told me to not buy such gaming mouses because its not needed for my games. My brother has a g5 and i feel its a bit bulky, same w/ my cousin's g9. I looked at the razer and they aren't as bulky, so i'm liking them.

Razers are peculiar creatures. Their shape is, at best, unconventional. I would highly recommend seeing if u can test run any Razer mouse before u buy it. With a wrist rest lifting your hand an inch above the table I wouldn't recommend a Razer.

I personally use the Logitech MX518. Its an old mouse. The DPI is 1800 which is plenty for me. I very much prefer it over my Razer Diamondback (not new either).

And yea, I play DotA too :D. You really don't want too high mouse movement with that game unless you're pro (in which case we need to talk)

I'm not liking the logitech gaming mouses because they are made to fit your right hand, which makes them a bit bulky. Those are more for palm grip people imo, so that's why i was turning towards razer.

I guess I should just buy the same mouse i'm currently using? I was hoping to get a razer mouse to be flashy and have more "gamer" items :p, but if i don't need it, i'd just be going for luxury but a waste of money that i need.

And maybe we do need to talk. :)

Mt. Dew, DP, and Doritos of the Cool Ranch variety.

I'd say a mouse with selectable dpi like in the G5 & G7 can give a huge edge in competitive play.

Its nice being able to hit a little button and get uber fast pans and then switch back to accurate movement on the fly.

I know the OP said it's not needed for him but for others with interest.

I'm not a WoW player so how it'd work in game, I can't say. But in shooters esp. with turret vehicles it's a must!

Currently I'm running both a G7 and G5 and a G11 Keyboard. But don't take me for a logitech fan, It's just what I got killer deals on. But I'm happy with them all.
