Guys, what kind of bag for laptop do you prefer/have? The messenger style type or the backpack type? Why?
-
Targus Backpack - Best notebook backpack I've had btw - excellent quality/design.
Why - because I find messenger bags to put too much stress on one side of my neck/shoulder and a backpack evens the weight distribution.
Also you can generally carry more in a backpack. -
i see. because my laptop will arrive maybe this week, and im still deciding which bag to buy, but my first choice is really the backpack type.
-
I use a Incase sleeve, didn't see an option for it on the poll there.....
It's great -highly recommended however is a bit expensive at $40 or so. I just use that and slip it into my Northface backback which already has padding anyways. -
messenger bag. my laptop isnt that heavy and can easily be reached, open the flap of the messenger or zipper and pull out or put in the laptop. im using a caseman with a laptop sleeve. so thats like double padding.
-
I put my laptop in a sleeve then put it in my Eastpak Wyoming backpack. Like peted76 said you can carry more in a backpack and it has a lot less strain on your shoulders.
-
ive got that swiss army backpack - its a bit expensive (although you can get them on sale now for $40-50) but its awesome:
- plenty of room for the laptop itself
- plenty of padding
- plenty of room for books (i carried huge law books and my laptop to school without issue)
- plenty of compartments for accessories
- VERY comfortable to carry around
ive had that thing for 3 years - its been through everything with me and it still looks great - they are constructed very well -
messenger type. cuz it was on sale at the time.
-
it really depend on these things~
large / heavy notebook => backpack style
small / light notebook => msgbag style
if you drive => msgbag style
if you are required to walk more than a mile a day with your laptop => backpack style -
what if your laptop is a 14" screen type.. whats better, to buy the 14" backpack/messenger bag or 15" bag? coz i saw the two bags at a store and it seems that there's no difference at the size of the bags.
-
For 14" laptops, it wont be a problem coz itz usually light so both are recommended.
Juz as psun786 said, it also depends on how you travel. If you walk alot with a bunch of books and a lappy, it will cause you one hell of a backpain. I have an Asus A8J and also has 14" screen. With my books in a messenger bag, I have to change the messenger bag wearing style( from 1 side to sling) and i walk around more than 1 mile a day.It also depends on how much things you wana put in.
If therez loadsa bks(huge ones), backpack should be more preferable
As a recommendation, u should get a 15" just in case you want to invest for a bigger laptop in the future and sure will provide you with more space. -
finally! i got my dell inspiron 1420! i just need to find the right backpack for me and my problem is over!
-
Anyone know anything about the alienware backpacks?
-
I used to tote around my old latitude in a msnger bag and while it was nice its a pain after a bit when it gets heavy. I just recently got one of those booq bag systems for my new mbp and can say I like it much better then the msnger. Oh and its also pretty darn sexy.

Mine doubles as a messenger bag and briefcase, but I use it as a briefcase. I really liked the backpack I already had, and didn't want to replace it just because I was getting a laptop. I wasn't used to the messenger style, either, so it has been briefcase so far. It works pretty well, hasn't been too heavy, but neither have I taken it long distances. Only thing is it's not nearly as common on campus as it might be at a large corporation.
I had to get a 17-inch one because of the extended battery on my 1720. That also limited my choices - there were lots of 13-inch choices and a decent number of 15, but the store only had one 17-inch. Fortunately I liked it, and it wasn't expensive. -
finally, i bought my SAMSONITE Midnight Blue Backpack! It's perfect! I love it! It feels like that my notebook is in a very safe place^^
-
I use a military backpack, because they are durable, waterproof, large, made of heavy canvas, and their made in the USA. The main reason I choose it, becuase the bag can hold 95lbs and can be worn comfortably for up to 12 hours at a time. Plus my 17" Voodoo desktop replacement needs a huge bag.

Wenger Swiss Army backpack
its awesome -
I used to switch it up a lot, but I've narrowed it down to just my Mobile Edge Premium Backpack. I use it for work, school and travel and it's been awesome. Super comfortable!
-
i also forgot, theres a 2 year warranty for my Samsonite backpack. NICE!
-
I use a Ogio Big Boss... a little expensive ($260), but well worth it.
-
using caseman messenger bag and caselogic sleeve. best padding ever

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834995043&Tpk=lenovo%2bbackpack
Just bought this Lenovo brand backpack. It easily accomodates a 15" T42p Thinkpad with its extended 9 cell battery. It's also very light and slim and has numerous pockets all around. My only complaint is the velcro they use to keep the front fold over flap closed and in place. If they had used magnetic buttons instead, this backpack would've been a 10. -
Gotta put in my 2 cents for sfbags.com. I have the cargo messenger with notebook sleeve on order atm.
-
I have a Swiss Army backpack that I got at Sam's Club for $40 and it is perfect. Plenty of padding, lots of room for books, laptop has it's own sleeve, and very comfortable.
-
I like DooshTech's D-Bag15. Most comfortable messenger bag I've ever strapped on- wide and thick shoulder strap with dooshpads (little gel-pad inserts) along the contact point range. Great for petite builds or sensitive shoulders.
Has the perfect size pocket for my 15.0" T-Pad; then the main compartment easily stores a note pad and few thin books. Just not really for those heavy days. Ugh!
I also like just putting my notebook in a high quality protective sleeve (bihn, booq, waterfield etc) and throwing that loose in any backpack along with a summer sausage, crackers, and a warm Mr. Pibb. -
Doosch Bag?????
-
I have a cute shoulder zebra print shoulder bag on the way that I plan to just put my laptop with a sleeve in. I'm a girl though so it looks alright. I have a Dickie's bag too will switch up with. Wearing a backpack to work makes me feel a bit silly. I don't know...
-
-
Using a leather sleeve.. pricey, but so nice -
-
I'm using Tom Bihn's Super Ego messenger bag. Expensive but good.
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I used to use a messenger type, but recently I've moved over to the backpack type. It's just so much easier on your back and shoulders... especially when you're carrying more than just a laptop.
-
I just recently bought a laptop. My husband thinks I should get a backpack because he says the messenger bag is too easy to recognize as a laptop bag and is more then likely to be grabbed. What is your opinion?
-
get a laptop back. You won't be disappointed.
-
are there any problems with fitting a 17" notebook in a backpack? i've looked up a few but see no mention as to what size notebook will fit inside.
-
I use a messenger style bag to carry around my laptop because I think I look childish wearing a backpack to and from the office.
-
-
Another recommendation is a slipcase or a sleeve that you can carry around and/or be placed into a backpack.
-
I have the Crumpler Bucktaker, black. Very nice messenger bag, designed for notebooks. Plus, they have a 99 year warranty!
-
lol, thats funny a 99 year warranty as opposed to just saying it's basically lifetime.
-
Another vote for sleeve + quality "sleeper" backpack. I just bought my first laptop and the thought didn't really cross my mind. I was looking at various messenger bags and backpacks made specifically for laptop as the main item. Not only did my search come up lacking due to the styles of bags I was seeing, it hit me that it puts a pretty good target on your back. "Hey look at me I have a nice laptop on my back!!!"
I ordered a Waterfield sleeve for $40 and am looking at some plain Jansport packs or perhaps a backpacking sack that I can use as my EDC survival kit stash + carry my work laptop. -
I bought a nice northface brand backpack
heckley model to be specific. Works great with my 14'' notebook. The back is padded also so no need to worry about anything breaking. Comf and plenty of pockets and is good for someone of my age(im still in highschool, so im attracted to brand names) regardless it being only a brand name. It has an actual dedicated laptop pocket. I'd recommend this for 14-15.5 notebooks
anyone with a 17 incher would have a tough time squeezing all that screen in there. :] -
I have a bag that I can use both backpack style and messenger style but I use a slip from Sanwa, supposedly shock absorbing.
-
I am currently using a Tumi Ducati messenger. looks cool, and is a stylish piece of kit for my 15.4" HPnc8430.
Just need to get another one for the beast in my sig about to arrive
