Hi, I need help in deciding which notebook memory to buy. The computer I recently ordered is a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656 and i have searched like hell and found no memory that seems to be compatable with my notebook. btw the memory I want is 2GB (2x1GB) b/c the memory I have now is 512MB and I feel that is not enough.

    I have found this site:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820208300

But I'm not sure it will work with my notebook. Anyone know what memory modules I should buy for my notebook?

Any DDR2 memory will work. Check the RAM Deals.

The RAM deals for sure; all of the RAM in there is of good quality. What kind of processor do you have?

You need DDR2-533 (PC2-5300) memory then, just look in the RAM DEALS thread. Thanks for the info.

Yes, 533 MHz RAM will also suffice. However, only use that type of RAM if it is cheaper than current 667 MHz RAM. Theres no point in paying more for something which will run at the correct frequency.

I just realized I made a mistake in my post - I meant to say PC2-4200. DDR2-533 = PC2-4200. DDR2-667 = PC2-5300. Your notebook supports both but will only run at 533MHz even if you put in the 667MHz stuff because that's what your front side bus speed is.

I've used www.crucial.com for years. Their website can scan your notebook & give you a complete report gining the exact specs of your present ram, if it's working, and what your system will take, including great great pricing of every possible combination. Crucial makes their own ram being part of Micron Technology. I've used them for years. A one stop no brainer solution including details how to install it.

I ran their scan on a new $3,000. Sony only to find out Fry's switched out my factury ram with cheap slower non-specified ram while claiming to be loading some free software.

After Chaz, Zero & Lithus, I plan on checking RAM Deals. I far as I know, they are the only site with a ram scanning program which will also tell you if your ram is bad. I could never tell exactly what ram specs are by looking at the chips. good luck, rafdo

No way! Fry's aren't exactly a shady operator kind of store. But I guess anything is possible. Very annoying if they actually did do dat.

You can also check your installed RAM using a little utility called Mem86+. Download the util, then burn it's image to a disc. It will actually be a bootable disc, then run to your heart's content. It's recommended you let it do one full pass. No harm in letting it run through several passes - may take hours- to make sure your RAM is good.
