My notebook has the XGA screen. What should I use to clean the screen without putting scratches on it, and what kind of spray is good? Windex?

    Thanks.

Dear lord, NO WINDEX! I hope it's not too late. For general cleaning a microfiber cloth with water. if you have tough spots, use an alcohol swab.

No I haven't used Windex. I 've been wiping it with a cloth and a little water. Thought maybe there was a specific solution I could use.

It can leave streaks and a nasty film that is a real pain to remove.

I bought something called "Nice N Clean" from Walmart. It is an antistatic cleaning wipe for computers and laptops etc. It smells just like those alcohol wipes you see in doctor's offices.

Gateway tech support told me that using alcohol based cleaners could damage the special coating on TrueLife-type screens. I'm not sure whether they really know what they're talking about, but I use a paper towel with a little bit of water like they said to, and it seems to work just fine, so I'm not going to take the chance.

Huih! Paper towel!? That will scratch your screen atleast. Microfiber is the best to keep screen clean. It's soft and no need to use any solvents like alcohol etc...

just get a screen protector, peel it off and clean it in the sink. Then when it's dry stick it back on. There's a Bstrong site that sells them pretty cheap, though there might be better quality ones elsewhere. I wouldn't know since 50 bucks for a protector is a bit out of my price range.
