I have a Sony vaio FZ laptop and the keyboard on it is fine when I take to the library for study or to classes/tutorials but I also do gaming. I feel when I game or use the laptop keyboard for extended periods I am either A) damaging it or B) I begin to feel uncomfortable i.e. bad posture and sore hands.
I was wondering what to look for in a keyboard. I know there are specific gaming keyboards out there such as the Logitech G1S but that is outside of my budget range. What sort of keyboard is good for gaming and can be used to type long essays on? USB or wireless? Would the performance of a mouse and keyboard decrease if plugged into a USB hub?

A hard wired keyboard is more suited to gaming, also less hassling and worries ....compared to wireless. To be honest any keyboard will do aslong as its got the right keys you need. For gaming, do not get a compact keyboard.
The speed would be the same on a USB hub so dont worry. Maybe 0.01% slower but its nothing at all to worry about. Wireless will probably be slower, but you still wont notice it. -
If a G15 is out of your price range consider getting a Saitek Eclipse II kb. I own both. There's pros & cons to each one but overall they are decent boards.

For the money go with the Saitek. The keys are bit better, imo, and I hardly use the LCD on the G15. A friend of mine also complained that the letters were rubbing off the keys on the G15. Although I've had my G15 for almost three years I haven't had that problem yet. But the Saitek is a solid choice.

Razer Reclusa also exists...
its priced between Saitek & G15.
And its pathetic... very heavy & bad illumination.
So go with Saitek Eclipse II. -

Well my keyboard and mice solution at the moment is looking like it will be...
Logitch MX518 or Razer Diamondback (with same price in NZ)
Steelpad mouse pab
Logitech Premium 4-Port USB Hub
and a wired keyboard, probably basic logitech.
What do you guys think? -
