What would you try if your monitor/comp were not recognizing each other?

    I have this monitor^

For about a year I had the HP monitor connected via DVI to VGA to a USB plugable 3.0 UD 3900 dock. It worked until my UD-3900 mysteriously stopped working.

I take my thinkpad yoga, a mini HDMI to hdmi and connect the monitor. The laptop doesn't recognize the monitor, the monitor says "No Signal" for HDMI.

However, the mini HDMI to HDMI works for the thinkpad yoga to gechic monitor.

My best guess is that the HP monitor is so used to seeing DVI that it doesn't know how to do HDMI anymore. I think that somewhere a few months ago the HDMI worked fine.

What are some things you would try?

What other info would you need to troubleshoot?

first I would clean and wiggle connectors, hdmi is one of the most flimsy connectors, I already have one bad hdmi connector on my older tv, especially with heavy cable hanging out of it, it broke some of the solders inside. Compare HDMI to DVI or VGA connector with screws to hold the cable securely.
Are you sure your monitor is set to HDMI? You may have to switch the input on the monitor if its not self detecting, or self detect not working anymore.
Is your computer set to resolution and refresh rate supported by your monitor?
