Hey there,
I'm considering the Razer Lachesis but I read they are some problems with so Im looking for other mouses.
Suggestions?

<80...hmmm Deathadder or Microsoft x series.
-
From what I understand the Logitech G700 is pretty awesome. It's a little higher than your price range, but there are some coupons floating around I believe. I know I got one for newegg yesterday that brought it down to $85, but I don't know where I put the email.

Logitech G9 or G9x. The G9x is a small refresh over the G9, offering slightly higher DPI than the Mamba. Other than that, the G9 and G9x are essentially the same exact mouse.

My recommendation goes to the Razer DeathAdder. It's the most comfortable and lightweight mouse I've ever held, and at 3,500 DPI it's the most precise non-laser optical mouse there is. Plus, you'll have a considerable chunk of your budget left over.
The "best" mouse is entirely relative. It's all about what feels best for you, and as long as got reasonably competitive specs (i.e. around 2,000 DPI and 1ms response time), it comes down to personal preference. If there's a Best Buy anywhere near you, take a visit; they often have several gaming mice from Razer and Logitech on display for everyone to get a feel for.
As for your concerns about the Lachesis, they recently re-released it with a new sensor, the same 5,600 DPI laser used in the Mamba and Imperator, as well as a braided cable, and garetjax's favorite, color-changing LED lighting. I haven't heard of any issues in the new model compared to the old 4,000 DPI Lachesis.
-
Yup Deathadder has a very comfortable feeling like Mamba. You really don't need high DPI mouse. Precision and Comfort are both good at Deathadder at your price. Lachesis is a little bit weird.

Mx 518. Pretty cheap, very good.

I like my MX518 for the money its the best mouse IMO, but I wouldnt use a corded mouse with my laptop. I use a G7 witch is great but no longer manufactured. You would have to go for a G700 probably to get the most similar wireless device.
-
Wired for me Deathadder is my personal favorite, the grip and shape are just a perfect match, the side buttons are placed very good for how i grip the mouse. The only thing that i would change on it is the side instead of glossy to be mate like the top, but not a big deal.
-
I'm eyeballing the Razer Imperator looks good, the Logitech G700 looks good too. Thanks for the help guys,
Keep the suggestions coming -

From what I understand the Imperator is a MX518 clone, so if you see the MX518 cheaper it makes more sense.
-
The Razer Imperator is a 5,600 DPI 3.5G while the MX518 is just 1,800 DPI
The Razer looks better too. -
I tried the Imperator and the shape didnt do it for me, i like more the deathadder shape, but this is very personal, if you get a chance go try out as many mice as you can see whats fits more comfortable in your own hand and grip style, this is far more important than DPI or even price, at least to me.

There are enough threads in the archives showing why the MX518 is one of the best mice in the world due to the more important hidden statistics like error correction and jitter. Also I find optical mice to track better and work on more surfaces than laser. -

I've personally tried and tested a few Razers and in my opinion they are a bit overpriced and the quality compared to Logitech isn't there.
-
I personally have had good experience with Razer. I bought a Krait on sale, and replaced it with a Copperhead (Asus upgraded my laptop after my first G51 was DOA, so I got the mouse and backpack thrown in...still use the Krait for travel). I would love to have a Latchess as my next mouse. Razer also gave me a free bag and shirt after an incident where their driver page was compromised and I ended up with a virus in their driver.
-
So why do Razer, Logitech etc bother making them? -
The MX518 is indeed one of the finest gaming mice on the planet. Vicious is correct in saying that its hidden attributes trump offerings by higher end mice by Logitech and Razer. -

As noted, 5600DPI is basically pointless as the mouse would be so sensitive at that setting . . . hardly usable. Marketing nonsense.
I'll suggest the SteelSeries Xai. The reasons I like it, in no particular order:
-Ambidextrous
-Great shape no matter how you grip the mouse
-Identical click feel no matter where you click the buttons
-Very precise scroll wheel
-Center-weighted and lightweight
-Onboard profile store -- you can switch and change 5 profiles on the mouse directly; it is independent of the software
-You can adjust the CPI and polling rate Hz in increments of 1
If you look around you might be able to find it at $80; it is MSRP $90.
There is also the SteelSeries Kinzu for around $40 -- you could then take the rest of the money and save it or spend it on something else. -

I'm going to have to add my vote for the Deathadder. I've been using mine for a few years now and it is holding up well.

The normal consumer would go to the store and see one camera with 5MP and another with 8MP marketing and what has become as "common knowledge" is that MP = Quality.
However its not true, MP = Size of image and a larger image does not equal better quality.
The image sensor aka "hidden attributes" is what is actually responsible for the image quality. If its the same brand of camera in the same range of products chances are that the 5MP and 8MP camera have the same image sensor. So what happens is you pay more for the 8MP product but the camera is only capable of resolving the same amount of detail in the pictures no matter what MP it resolves the image as.
The 8MP product simply produces a larger image with worse quality than the 5MP camera with the same image sensor, as a result if you have ever taken pictures with high MP count cheap cameras, you have to shrink the image down in size to make it look good.
A perfect camera would not do this, it would take the image at the size that is about equal the the amount of detail the image sensor can resolve, but companies know if they did that they would be losing money because they cant sell the same product several times over for more money just due to marketing tactics.
Now in Mice the DPI is the same way, a larger DPI does not make it better its just more sensitive @ 5700DPI it so sensitive that you cant use it the quality of the mouse is the same as lesser models because those "hidden attributes" are basically the same. What you end up doing with that 5700dpi is scaling it down via lower sensitivity settings in windows or in your games, exactly like how you have to scale down the size of that 8MP camera.
The moral of the story is its marketing, you are paying for nothing that benefits you or the product.
The day human beings are capable of making phisical movements voluntary and accurately in less than 1mm increments and we have monitors with a native resolution of over 9000x5000 is the day we start needing 5700dpi mice. -
So if I go for a Logitech G500 or G700 would that be good since I can change the sensitivity of mouse to whatever?

OK now that I've decided on a mouse,
Any suggestions on a good mouse-pad? -
Another vote for MX518. Not wireless, but still a darn good mouse. Wish they made a wireless variant.
-
-
The Logtech G7 is the wireless version of the Logitech G5, which is the "gaming" version of the Logitech MX510 / MX518. -
I'm in the same boat too now that my G7 is dying
Cant decide between:
Performance MX
MX1100
G700 -
G700 is awesome! I am loving mine.
-
-
-
I too am stuck on deciding between the Logitech G700 & the G500
-
Still rooting for the MX518, for its price at least. Pretty cheap on newegg.
-
I had a Logitech G7 before and I ended up switched to a Razer Mamba because I wanted wireless capability. -
Wasn't the G7 wireless to begin with?
-
I used to think that the MX518 was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then I tried out the G500. It barely edges it out and has the same shape/size. My votes for the G500 if you like the MX518.
For reference..
Logitech G3 - Was ok. It was a "regular" mouse with laser inards. I hated the side buttons.
Razor Diamondback - Too big for my hands. I have semi small hands and my fingers wouldn't reach the end of the buttons. Hated this mouse.
Logitech MX500 - I've owned the original and it was great.
Logitech Mx518 - Same mouse as above with a few minor internal upgrades. By far one of the best mice I have ever used.
Logitech G500 - Best mouse so far by far. Everything about this mouse is quality, down to the braided cord.
Logitech G20 - Good mouse. I had issues with the wireless. My wife uses it now and won't go back to any other mouse.
Logitech MX Revolution - I like the mouse, but its too big for my hands. I would trade it for a G500 any day. -
The refrence really helped me out on deciding.
2.Kuga27 Thanks dude I'll try checking out a G700 before buying it, though I like the wireless part. -
Hows the Razer Naga? I play mmo's fairly often, and thought itd be nice to have. Anyone have any experience with it?

I like the G7's dual battery operation. I never have to charge the mouse itself I just charge the spare battery pack and when the mouse says its low on battery swap them out.
Its been with me for 3 or so years now and its pretty darn close to the MX518, the MX518 does not have the left/right move on the scroll wheel but has the 2 side buttons. I prefer this since I use those two buttons for forward/back and in games often and never liked let/right press on scroll wheels as its a bit slower and often can happen when your trying to use the "push in scroll wheel" click instead.
I was really close to getting a G700 but really thought about it and decided I had no good reason since I have a brand new MX518 and a mint condition G7 for now. I know I will still prefer the G7 dual battery to the G700's way of charging. That way I can truly keep the mouse wireless at all times, and that is important to me for laptop use. -
The G700 uses a standard Eneloop rechargeable Nimh AA battery, so it would be pretty easy to get a couple more cells and an AC charger and always have fresh batteries for it.
-
You can even find alkaline AA/AAA battery charger now !!!
What's the best Gaming mouse for under $80?
