There is a thread in the Acer forum for a laptop similar to mine with a guide on making a backlit keyboard yourself, but I don't know how to solder or anything like that and I don't really want to risk that.

I'm not set on doing this, it's just a novelty idea right now. But if I wanted to have someone do this, do you think I would have to go to a laptop repair place? An electrician? I don't even know, just out of curiosity.

the right place is here: Notebook Cosmetic Modifications and Custom Builds

an electrician does not even worth with pc's. a laptop repair place doesn't make mods.

the thing you are trying to do is very tricky and could take a lot of work and money.
there are several ways to do it. if you just want to lit the space between the keys then it's much easier. if you really want backlit keys then good luck with that. it needs extensive modding.

a great tip for you: usb EL wire.

but there are many mods around. use google.

if you really don't want to mess with the notebook then you can buy a spare keyboard in case things go wrong. you don't need to solder to the notebook. it's really easy if you keep things simple. more complex things needs days of 3D printing and/or CNC machining.
