I am trying to find a backpack or sleeve for my new dell 1564. I am not sure if I would search on line or just go to a local store (walmart, officemax.)

    Where did everyone get theirs?

I got mine from Oakley Vault Store. Oakley Kitchen Sink, easily the best backpack I've ever used. I mostly use my Oakley SI Computer Bag for carrying my computer though, the backpack carries everything else but can easily accommodate my computer too.

a normal backpack will suffice for a college campus or high school. If you are climbing Mt. Everest then I suggest leaving the laptop at home.

I like these sleeves: I've seen them all and they are every nice, good materials and good quality.

BUILT NY Laptop Sleeve - Fits Laptops with Screen Sizes Up to 16-inch - Black : Laptop Accessories | Dell

BELKIN COMPONENTS Evo Laptop Sleeve - Fits Laptops with Screen Sizes 15.6-inch - Black/ Red : Laptop Accessories | Dell

BELKIN COMPONENTS Pitch Black Laptop Sleeve - Fits Laptops with Screen Sizes Up to 15.6-inch - Designed for Dell : Laptop Accessories | Dell

I like the second one most, they do have zippers but they are great quality, doubt they would ever break with normal use.

I honestly do recommend a good backup, I've had backpacks under $50 and eventually they all died horrible deaths. The just don't last. Spend a little more and get a great quality backpack and you'll have it for years and years.

Take a look at some of these cheaper backpacks, they all do a pretty decent job. Also they are good value for what you get. I know a couple people with the Swiss Gear one, or at least one very similar and they like it a lot.

*CLEARANCE* 5dot Connect Deep Forest Backpack - Fits Laptop with Screen Sizes Up to 16-inch - Black/Red : Laptop Accessories | Dell

BELKIN COMPONENTS Evo Backpack - Fits Laptops with Screen Sizes up to 15.6 inch - Black/Red : Laptop Accessories | Dell

TARGUS Targus Spruce Ecosmart Backpack - Fits Laptops Up to 17" - Black/Green : Laptop Accessories | Dell

SWISS GEAR LEGACY Checkpoint Friendly Backpack - Fits Laptops with Screen Sizes up to 15.6-inch - Black : Laptop Accessories | Dell

TIMBUK2 Q Laptop Backpack - Fits Laptops with Screen Sizes Up to 15-inch - Black : Laptop Accessories | Dell

If you can find a way to spend close to $100 you should look at this backpack, it is pretty awesome for the price. I was look at it the other day and was very impressed. I've also found them online for around $85 shipped if you live in the US.

Sounds to me like someone is a bit of an Oakley fanboy. I have a Belkin Core series 15.6" backpack and a Solo Check Safe 15.4" sleeve. The backpack holds everything of mine, to include my notebook cooler, just fine and even comes with a little pouch for your AC adapter. At Walmart, they run about $25 to $30 if I remember correctly. The sleeve I got cost me about $10 at Sam's Club.

Also, a word of advice. Get a universal AC adapter for your notebook. The Dell one will most likely crap all over itself.

Does your 15.6" notebook fit fine in a 15.4" sleeve?

I will have to go check out that Belkin Core series backpack.

Yep, it fits just fine. The only 15.6" notebook that I had problems with when it came to putting it in a case was my old Gateway MD2614u. However, that notebook was on the market back when you didn't see a ton of 15.6" notebooks available.

The Swiss Gear Ibex, or Pegasus, would work for you. I had listed the Synergy, but realized you had a 15.6 screen and the fit would be very tight, w/out a good sleeve. :)

As for sleeves, I have usually gone to meritline.com for my sleeves..As they have durable sleeves for economical pricing.

Now, if you watch Dell's Daily deals, you can find some good deals for around $7 to $9 on some nice Neoprene sleeves by Belkin and Targus. I just picked up a few from there a about a month ago paying no more then $9. :)

Also, checkout eBags - Largest Selection Of Handbags, Backpacks, Luggage & More - eBags, for sleeves & backpack, you can also get some good savings along with sometimes 20% Bing cashback :)
