Hi i currently have a xps m1210 with only VGA connection.
I want to get a 24" monitor but use it for skool/work/gaming(on 360).
I heard the 2408wfp has input lag is this true any other issues i should be aware of...i checked cnet reviews but i feel they are some what biased to dell.
Its overly priced but given the brightness(400cd/m2) and available connections I am leaning towards it since its on sale for $549 CAD. $150 off. untill friday
Also there is another LCD/monitor samsung t2408hd this has a built in hd tv tuner which I think is great for the price and connections but the brightness(300cd/m2) CDW has this model priced for $470 ...but im not sure this is good for gaming on 360
Which is the best from your experiences?

saw them in best buy and they looked good -
I just wrestled with this question myself + bought a 24" monitor.
My initial choices were the Dell 2408WFP (saw the sale too) and the more expensive HP LP2475w a friend mentioned.
I ended up getting the HP. It's more money, but less lag, + a better screen/technology.
It's an H-IPS screen but HP's site incorrectly states S-IPS, vs the PVA tech used in the Dell.
Gaming is a priority, so I wanted something nearly as lag free as a crappy (IQ) TN based LCD, but coming off of professional CRTs, I also wanted a monitor with the color + wide viewing angles of an "X"VA panel. These 2 requirements made the HP an easy choice.
here's a review of the HP--note the terrible lag of the Dell in comparison charts--it's the worst one of all:

And a review of the Dell:

Besides the lag, the Dell seems to have some ghosting issues as well. Awesome colors after calibration though. Seems it's more for photo-editing type tasks than gaming. -
The 2408WFP is a horrible monitor, not worth the money. It suffers from input lag, making it highly unsuitable for gaming, and also cannot display text without distortion or blurriness (most text show up as rainbows to me instead of black).
The 2408WFP I had also had other issues, as it sometimes did not display an image after the computer resumed from sleep (even though I had a 2407WFP right next to it and I swapped monitors a few times to test). Turns out the issue was only solved by unplugging/replugging the LCD in or rebooting the PC. It would also sometimes screw up at boot, and not recognize the PC's DVI signal. Again, I verified my desktop was not the problem by using a 2407WFP.
Returned it within a week or two of it's delivery, and Dell deleted my comments that I left on their "customer review" section of their website shortly after I posted them. -
Samsung SyncMaster 2443BW-HAS Just got it on the weekend and I love it.... So far...

Wow, I am glad I didnt dish out the extra $300 to get the 2408WFP.
I instead got the Dell E248WFP 24" 1920x1200 TN panel and it has been performing fine.
If you want a good TN panel, it is a great choice. I have had mine for about 5-6 months and it has never given me any problems. At first opening it had a few stuck pixels, but after an hour of operation, they all disappeared.

how can we tell if the lcd screen is glossy or not? i'm looking for the matte screen.
edit: when buying online, they don't really say if the screen is glossy or not.
thanks -
just make sure to go to the manufacturer's product web page and match the product# with the one on the online retailers product#...always call and ask as well

ok so...the dell one..there is a revision model out A01 but not sure if it ships to canada. The A01 has been revised to fix all issues inpug lag etc...plus they have extended the 3yr warranty to 4yrs... its 549 till end of today...but should i wait? will they bring the price down even further before christmas or boxing day?
-
That said, if you're still dead-set on buying this thing, then I'd get it at today's sale price. -
the HP one is very good but price range is too high i can probably get a good lcd tv for that price.
-
TN LCDs may not have the color or wide viewing angles of the HP, but they have even less lag and are far cheaper.
However, that particular Dell seems to be one of the worst gaming monitors out there. Especially for that kind of $$$. -
BenQ E2200HD or E2400HD (HDMI, 1920x1080 res)
Best Value package.
I would go for the E2200HD because it's like 100 cheaper than the 24" here, in europe. -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Here's a somewhat good deal on the BenQ E2200HD (and other models): http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1367445
