    Hi Guys,

I have a few issues with my HP Pavilion laptop at the moment because it seems to overheat the moment I try and play any games.

I have been told that one of the best things to try a cooling pad, now I had a go with one of the belkin basic stands with x1 fan and it simply wasn;t enough to keep the beast cool...

Has anyone here reccomend a high powered cooling pad I could buy in the Uk?

    Thanks for any feedback.
    Oli

PS. I have already cleaned out the dust.

Actually, 'one of the best' things to try first would be to clean the laptop from dust if you can.
Buying a cooler can be a bit waste of money to be honest.
Which laptop do you have specifically and when was the last time you opened it up and cleaned it?

I recommend that you try and clean the dust out of your fan with some compressed air first but as for notebook cooler could you post a picture of the bottom of your notebook? It would really help us help you. (Belkin Coolers are notoriously ineffective)

he stated that he already cleaned out his vents and that he mainly wants to use his laptop on his lap. that really negates pretty much the majority of effective active coolers (ones with fans).

my favorite setup to use on the couch, bed, or lap is the Lapinator. there's also a plus size available and a mouse attachment.

EDIT!!! sorry i must've mixed u up with another person, that was asking me about coolers. disregard the mumbo jumbo above. :p @OliWelch: what kind of laptop do u have and will the cooler be stationary or be taken with u?

we need to know the specific model of the laptop(s) u are interested in cooling because every laptop comes with a different vent setup at the bottom. Cooler A might cool Laptop A upto 20 degrees, but might not be effective for Laptop B or C.

Hi guys thanks for all the replies.

The specific model is a HP Pavilion Dv7 entertainment pc 2030 ea to be specific.

Minutiae, I really don't mind whether it's laptop or desktop use to be honest, just as long as I can play TOR with out the thing overheating and shutting down! Apparently the Cryo LX isn't on sale anymore which I found upsetting because to me it looked like it had some serious cooling potential!

    Thanks again,

CoolerMaster NotePal U2 is what i'm using for my VAIO SA 13.3" laptop. since your laptop is a 17" one, i'd suggest you look at CoolerMaster NotePal U3 which has three moveable fans where you can place underneath the intake grills of your laptop, so they blow cool air into the vents.

Thanks Darxide, the CoolerMaster NotePal U3 looks good. My only concern is that the fans seem a little on the small side. I understand that bigger isn't always better(!) But can anyone recommend something with a bit more punch?

...Or is it always down to fan placement rather then fan size?

    Thanks again

fan placement is the most important because the fans have to be in the right position to be able to get air to your vents. example: if all your vents were at the bottom of the laptop then a cooler with the fans at the top will be pretty useless for u.

there are some coolers that come with one huge fan. if the SF-19 can hit all your vents then that would be one of the top ones to go with, as far as something that "packs a punch". that thing can move some CFM's, but note that it does get pretty dang loud on max fan speeds.

not impressed with the shipment of the SF-19... I have now received two of them without the power supply adapter....
