I would like to purchase a GPS receiver for my laptop and to use my soon to be laptop as a 14" wide screen GPS unit.

So can anyone LMK what products work out the best/cheapest? preferably one that can be powered and connection via usb, if it happens to have a screen or not that isn't the biggest deal. I will take a screenless GPS receiver if the price is significantly less than a version with a screen.

    Thanks!

I bought a earthmate GPS receiver with Software from Costco and it is pathetic. There is no problem as such with receiver, but software so bad and outdate( even after all updates available) it can not even find 5 years old address and not at all intutive. So, stayaway from it.

Costco also sell MS Streets with a Receiver( for around $90-100) and looks like it works fine. If you do not like it you can always return to costco. :)

But again as dietcokefiend mentioned looks like that global sat is latest, but I am not sure if it comes with any software or not. If it comes with some software how good it is I do not know.

Good GPS recievers are not going to come with software. Pick that up seperately depending on which you like most. Whatever you get, make sure it is the newer "SiRF II" chip.

If your looking for just the hardware then the i-trek bluetooth GPS unit is hard to beat.
That is if you have Bluetooth already on your laptop.

I use it to connect to my SX66 Pocket PC using Pharos Maps and it works awesome!
Once it locks on it is really fast.
Plus its accurate to around a 2-3 meters.
