theres only one size to HDMI as far as i know and it doesnt matter if you buy a $10 or a $100 cable. They will both perform the same

LinkDepot @ newegg/frys are nice and cheap but of what seems like high quality to me. I got a 7ft cable for like 8$

Please dont get something like "monster" cables unless you like donating money to a company for there own gain.

I read somewhere on Youtube..some technical guy said that Monster Cables is Ripping off customers by Premium pricing their cables which perform like any other..

you can buy the Cheapest HDMI cable on the market & its the same as $300 monster Cable.

So dont worry just buy the cheapest.

make sure the Pin is Gold plated though atleast.

The end of the HDMI cable does not have to be gold plated. That is only a marketing gimmick for digital cables. Only analog signals benefit from gold plating, even then silver is better.

    +1

Goldplating is not needed for HDMI

Monoprice, cables-to-go, blue jeans cable are all cheap and quality options

    Monoprice/Bluejeans are great!

And actually there was a test done between Monoprice and Monster cable. Monster is actually "better" (don't flame me), for longer runs and at really really really high resolution (they were testing at 4k something or another).

Oh and there is a HDMI-Mini, have no idea what it is for. But our local Radioshack on crack has them.

No flaming at all - thats dead on. Monster cables are worth it if you are running a long cable (20 feet +)

Just fyi to everyone, all retail places like BestBuy, Circuit City, etc, all mark up the HELL out of cables and whatnot. Back years ago when I used to work there in the computer section, our discount on those cables and whatnot was cost (that is, we paid whatever best buy paid for them).

Guess what? That IEEE gold plated printer cable that was marked at 50.00? Yeah, I got it for like 4.50.

All these other "premium" cables are the same. They do the same thing, the only difference is you might pay more for a fancy emblem, brand name, or some sort of "space age polymer jacketing!"

Just buy a cheap one off ebay. Same w/ DVI and alla that.

^ How long do you need to run cable? Like I said earlier anything over 20+ feet will benefit from a highly quality cable, and its doesnt need to be a $100 Monster, just cheap monoprice cables have trouble carrying 1080p that far. And your change in picture quality wont be night and day - you probably wont even notice it.

I personally can part in the second example because my Physics class did a nice discussion regarding gold-plated connectors.

A pure digital signal either works or it doesnt. Now I wouldnt really trust a $10 30ft + cable, but for your standard fare, cheap digital cables work just as well as expensive ones. Analog signals can and will degrade, a pure digital signal will simply stop, be it completely or intermitently, you wont get a poor quality picture/sound, you'll have either nothing, or horrid pixelation/audio dropouts. That applies to any pure digital signal cable, hdmi/dvi/optical etc.

As stated above, the biggest concern will be signal attenuation with longer cables, otherwise, the $5 2m cable will work as well as the $35 2m monster cable.

Yeah, I will try to find that damn article. It was really damn good. Using really really high test equipment. It was not something I was intrested in (I would never buy a Monster Cable). But it was interesting. It was a link through AVSforums.

Oh and about the on and off about the digital cable. You are correct. But incorrect. Higher end cable does help over longer and when you are feeding higher resolutions. I really wish I could find that article. They tested 3 brands. Monoprice, Monster and a really really really cheap/expensive one (as in the generic brand cable, that is selling for $40). What it found was @ 30ft and 1080p, the Generic one failed. Monoprice and Monster passed. They tested the next resolution up, and guess what? Monoprice passed but just. Monster did it no problem.

They were not using TV's to test. It looked like a very high end vectorscope.

Like I said, I will try to hunt it down tomorrow.

Right on! Watching HDTV with an actual TV is for pedestrians. You would not believe the quality and enjoyment I get from my very high end vectorscope. My sound system is a spectrum analyzer.

Gotta have some other hobbies for the boys and girls that while their time and money away playing 3dmark :p

Bottom line, spend however much you care to spend on cabling, but unless your forced to do extremely long runs, your best bet is to find the shortest you can get by with cheapest digital cables you can find, and unless you plan to spend a couple quality hours with your vector scope, you'll be extremely hard pressed to notice any real world difference between a setup with less than $10 spent on cabling vs one with over $100. For analog cables, especially audio, it usually is worth it to shell out a little more for high quality cables, of course high quality doesnt have translate to high cost, research is always the key, a $20 set of high quality no name cables can easily outperform a $50-$100 set of monsters. The ONLY reason monster sells so well as its primarially the only cable offered aside from housebrands at big box retailers, average joe walks in, buys big fancy tv, doesnt know or doesnt want to wait to order a cheaper alternative, and forks out the big bucks on cables.
