I Have a Dell Vostro with SigmaTel Audio and Windows XP, and the sound for the mic seems to be getting worse (I installed driver updates, so I'm not sure wtf it's problem is. Normally I wouldn't care about the mic, but I've been using Ventrilo a lot more, and the static keeps getting worse. I'm thinking of getting a USB Headset if it would help (I have a Mic somewhere on my keyboard, but my Headset doesn't work well anymore either). I thought it was a first just Ventrilo that was causing it, but it does it when I test the mic on the computer, and the static is definetly worse now.

    So...
If I should just get a USB set, what are some cheaper ones (Under $40-$50... Unless it'd be worth it to save up for a more expensive one)
I was looking at 'Genius Virtual Dolby Headset' and 'Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset', along with a couple of other ones, but I want to know what there is out there that would work.

I have the Creative Fatal1ty set and can vouch for its awesomeness given the price category.

The Genius HS-04U is better at the same price point.

The Sennheiser PC 166 is much better than both at $90.

i have the creative fatal1ty edition, and its pretty cool (not the usb version).

its very comfortable and the mic is detachable which can be a good thing. it also comes w/ a nice black bag that u can put the mic and headset in if u wanna travel.

my only thing, and this is a personal dumb problem, is that i can't get vista to disable my xps m1530's internal mic and enable the external mic on the creative fatal1ty edition (that's vista's prob, but the headset is great and many reviews complimented the headset's microphone on amazon.com)

    good luck

May want to mention that I tend to be a little rough with my headphones (every couple months I have to get a new one because one of the speakers give out)... not as bad for the computer since I'm just sitting there, so not too concerned with them being tougher since it'll be just for it, but it'll be a plus.

Do any of the one you advised block the outgoing sound well? I gave my sennheiser pc151 to my cousing and boy, while doing a decent job at blocking incoming sound, from outside they sounded like speakers: you could hear what was playing from 6 feet away even though the volume was at reasonable levels...

I don't think SteelSeries has surround sound, but other than that they're pretty similar. But yeah, the Megalodon has 7.1 surround, the Astro A40 has 5.1. Astro A40 looks nicer though, and it's Xbox, PS2, and PS3 compatible.
