I got Acer 5735 laptop for Christmas and am required to create recovery disks. Even though the laptop apparently will accept several different kinds of DVDs I surfed the 'net and read a lot of horror stories about difficulties getting the recovery disks burned.

It seems that HP lappies "like" DVD+R as blank disk of choice to make recovery disks. Does anyone have opinion on what blank DVDs Acer likes? Format and Brand?

Tell me, dear Acer users, what your experiences have been making those darn recovery disks.

    I really want to know.

Thanks to all. And a happy New Year 2009.

I also received a new laptop for Christmas. Mine is a HP Pavilion dv5. I had problems making recovery disks so I called HP and they are going to send me out a set. Much easier!

    Good luck.

Glad it's working for you. I was thinking more of whether to buy single layer DVD-R or DVD+R; I've pretty much decided not to bother with dual layer for making the recovery disks.

What DVDs does Acer like? Other computer brand laptops?

    Happy New Year.

I dunno which laptop Brand likes which DVDs but "Taiyo Yuden" DVDs(Both -R and +R) are supposed to be among the best ( Verbatims are also good) for Longevity.

I've only ever owned HP computers thus far and they seem to "like" SONY DVD+R. Whatever you do, stay away from Memorex DVD's. My machine just spits those out. Even when it is able to complete the process, the disc usually comes out corrupted for some reason.

Just look at the writting on the side of the burner, it'll say either DVD-R or DVD+R, or both. So, you then just go to your store and ask for either DVD-R or DVD+R, that's all there is to it.

Don't mind all this "Brand X is better than brand Y" rubbish, because they all come from the same factory in China.

Too bad Taiyo Yuden are Japanese discs, but thanks for your valuable insight.
