What's the best gaming mouse you can get?
Any mouse considered best by the majority? or is it just about the preference?
My cousin uses Sidewinder and it seems good but not my type

Logitech MX518 all the way. It's an optical mouse, but it seems to have the best tracking, feel, an response of any other mouse I've used. I bought an extra just because these great items always seem to be replaced by a less than stellar replacement, but this mouse keeps going strong after many years. Thanks Logitech!

For my laptop though, I use a Logitech VX Nano. I like the smaller wireless one for travel, plus the USB dongle is super tiny, so no worries about it getting knocked out. I always leave it in. Works great for games too. -
Preference of course is the top thing for "best gaming mouse"
I've tried 2 others before settling on my DeathAdder. It worked for my grip, which is slightly claw/flat. It had the extra side buttons I wanted and feels/looks great. Before I tried a Fatal1ty and a Razer Copperhead and they weren't comfortable to me. It's all about comfort since you'll be using this a lot, it's your connection to what you're doing on screen. You can go to Best Buy to try a few mice, including the DeathAdder and MX518, both I hear are solid gaming mice. I have on the way a Razer Orochi, and hope it fits my needs! Don't waste your time like me and go try a few and know what you want out of a mouse first. Wired/wireless, number of buttons, ambidextrous or right handed? Then go in depth for features like DPI, on the fly, driver and configs. But I will recommend Razer products first as I like the mice and mouse pads a lot. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
g7 from logitech
a variety of mice from razer.
edit: i meant G9 also. -
ive tried a few, and the G7 is still my much preferred one for gamin, what a great mouse.
EDIT: FFS, I meant G9, its even written on it god damn it >< -
Certainly up to preference. I can not use an asymmetrical (non-ambidextrous) mouse, even though I'm strictly right-handed. I also can't have a mouse with extra buttons, unless they're out of the way and aren't in danger of being accidentally bumped.
Logitech Nano is what I've been using for over a year, I got it on the cheap at BestBuy (had a gift certificate), and it's performed admirably. Very responsive, and an awesome USB dongle. I can leave it in the back of my W870CU with the flap closed, so absolutely no danger of losing it or bending it or breaking it. Also, it's nice to be able to carry my mouse in my pocket, with the dongle inside the mouse where it can't fall out. -
Im pretty happy using Steelseries Ikari Optical.
It doesent have any flashing lights and buttons placed everywhere. -
You've pretty much answered it in your title. 'Best' is subjective.
Here's my stable of mice ranked for gaming with favorite at bottom:
Wacom Intuous4 (pen tablet)~ laugh if you must but excellent for RTS
Logitech Trackman Wheel (thumb marble) ~ suprisingly good for FPS
Logitech G7 (wireless) ~ battery swaps can be inconvenient
Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 ~ no frills basic and accurate
Logitech G9 ~ comfortable & adaptable; use w/ laptop
SteelSeries Ikari Laser ~ has it all; use w/ gaming desktop
Of course order would change for other app usage. -
Logitech G9x has been great the last few months since I purchased it... very happy, combined it with a SteelSeries gamepad and it's all worked great
-
honestly, i've been thoroughly content with my OCZ equalizer. it was like 20 bucks, and it's worked very well for the last year as my gaming mouse. very smooth, very comfortable, and a decent amount of buttons.
the best mouse is about preference. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
As stated preference rules first. Whatever feels good to you especially in terms of comfort and grip. Then I would look at the features of what i am considering and decide what I think is pointless and what I will really use. For instance "on the fly dpi switching" is not something I have a real need for. But I absolutely need thumb button that I can map for grenades! Also I HATE free spinning scroll wheels. If it doesn't click I don't even bother. And 1800 dpi vs 2500 dpi etc etc is all just hair splitting hype imo. So don't be too concerned with that.
What did I choose...
1. Deathadder
2. MX518
But I'll admit I kind of like the feel of the Sidewinder (but it's SO ugly, lol) though I have never used one other than in store. -
I would say any of the Razer mice. I have a Diamondback and really like it. Good quality mice.
-
) for the last 4 years and I absolutely love it. My brother uses the MX518 (which came with his Asus G1 notebook), which has the same dpi as my Diamondback (1800dpi) but both my brother and I agree that my Diamondback feels better and are more precise for gaming for some reason.

In terms of sheer specs, the Razer Mamba is currently king. It's got 5,600 DPI and 7 well-placed buttons in a comfortable right-handed shape. And it can be used both wirelessly or wired, with a detachable cable. In either case, it has 1,000Hz polling and 1ms response time. Unfortunately, it has a matching price tag of $130.
But as everyone else said, what's best for you is what you like. I chose the DeathAdder over the Mamba because I have no need for 7 buttons on a mouse, and 3,500 DPI is more than enough for me, and I don't mind a wired mouse. Also, it's much lighter than the Mamba; I don't care for heavy mice. -
Best Foot Forward Notebook Evangelist
Logitech G5 user for over 3 years, love it.
-
As you can see here with everybody giving you a different take on gaming mice it all boils down to personal preference. I've been through a lot of them and I still think the original 1800 dpi Deathadder (which shall from now on be known as Deathadder Classic) is the best.
-
+1 for Razer Mice, especially the Mamba.
-
I bought a MX510 (Standard version of MX518) about 4 years ago and it has performed perfectly fine for my PC gaming needs, i think people look too much into gaming mice. While there is a big separation between ball and optical mice, once you get to optical its pretty much preference and comfort instead of performance.
I got really into CS:S and did well so dont say im just not a good enough PC gamer -
Response time does make a difference as well, not just comfort. Admittedly, it makes more of a difference for some than for others, but keep in mind that the difference between 8ms and 1ms can mean the difference of who pulls the trigger on that headshot first.
-
Very true
I suppose it depends on how hardcore the TC wants to get
-
I have owned alot of mice, the best one in my opinion is the G9. There is nothing better.
-
I went with from a Logitech V220 to a Logitech G500 perosnally. It is comfortable, has an adjustable weight system, is fully programable, and has a 5,700dpi lazer engine. It has works wonders on COD:4, L4D, COD: World at War, and TF2.
-
get the logitech g9.
it used to be a $100 mouse and is really good.
i own one and would recommend it. -
-
In online games, naturally. But most modern online games have reasonably good lag compensation, so "true" reaction times become more important. That's why gamers prefer lower-latency display panels, and in some cases, even CRT monitors.
-
the best mouse i have ever use is my razer mamba
alot of money 130$ but was well worth it.
in one more day my razer orochi is coming so i have something like the mamba for my laptops
i also had tried alot of mouses even the logitech 518 and the razer diamond back plasma ed which are both really good mouses but i just prefer the mamba feels nice in the hand and nice and smooth and fast and what i love is wireless and wire -
I use the Razor DeathAdder. My favorite mouse so far, feels just right in my hand.
-
Everyone talks about the razer's, they have had decent ratings for years. I just could never justify the cost, but one of these days I may just bite. I've been too enamoured with my $50 MX518.
-
I have come to love the CM Storm Sentinel Advance
Got it after my G5 croaked, very comfortable. Smooth on the mousepad, and the included software allows for some nice fine tuning. Amazon has it for $50 so it's worth a shot. Red_dragon did a nice review on it. -
Thanks everyone for your opinions and the mice you've listed
I have come to like the Razer Mambo and the CM Storm Sentinel Advance
Razer Mambo for the build and CM Storm Sentinel for the design
Can I please also have a review on the Razer Mambo to know how comfortable it would be? -
jokes aside, the best mouse all depends on the criteria you specify...this includes..
- budget
- design/ergonomics
- hardware/software with the mouse (good sensor w/ different levels of DPI magnitude + good, user-friendly drivers)
- quality
-
It's all about preference in the end, but since I've only ever owned one G9x I'll have to say it's not been a disappointment.
-
I must say that CM sentinal is pretty sweet!
-
I would say that depending on your wallet's waist line you can chose from these three: logitech G9, Razer Imperator, MX518. Thats if you want to stay mainstream of course.
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Check this monster out! O.O

he wants a mouse, not a transformer...

Honestly, at 1800dpi or above, it's virtually all about preference. I noticed a small improvement in small-movement tracking when I tested a G9x at the full 5200dpi (I was using an MX-518).
I ended up getting a G9 because it was cheaper, and it tracks just as well (to me) at 3200dpi. Most of the time you just won't notice any difference at that point, so get the mouse that is most comfortable for you. -
I like my mice simple, with 4 buttons (appropriately placed - two on the left side for my thumb) and a detent scroll wheel. Anything else will get in the way.
-
Wingnut, I have a feeling you would definitely love the DeathAdder, even the original 1,800 DPI version (although of course the new 3,500 DPI model with the braided cable would be ideal
). In terms of button layout, it's similar to your MX518 (two clickers, scroll wheel, and two excellently placed and sized thumb buttons), and an optical sensor. The original 1,800 DPI model was the MX518's biggest direct competitor for years.
I'm certain you find the original model for significantly less than $50, and the new model retails direct from Razer for $60, so you could probably get it less elsewhere. For instance, the Orochi is $80 direct from Razer, and I just got one brand new from Buy.com for $69. -
Had a Razer Deathader before, great mouse
Got a Razer Naga right now for mmo's and it's great too
can't say anything bad about razer's so far -
I absolutely LOVE the Razer DeathAdder's shape. Fits my hand perfectly.
-
I have a Razer Copperhead - the one that came with my G71Gx, and I absolutely love it. I concur that most any of the Razer mice would be a good choice. The one you pick depends on what you are looking for. I have to say that the tracking on the Copperhead is fantastic on almost any surface (within reason, of course).
-
i dislike the super high DPI - i'm one to use the mouse with my hand, not fingers.
-
ive been using a razer deathadder for 2 years and love it. im thinking about upgrading to the 3500dpi version.
-
Well my G9 broke so I use a logitech trackball and I really notice almost no difference. In fact, the trackball I find better and smoother for sniping
-
-
), i would've never of gotten it.
IMO - DA has the best ergonomics EVER (for right-hand users). although, i dont mind ambidextrous design of the copperhead (also came with my laptop, G51Vx-A1), it a good mice overall -
oh I also want to add Razer's support was great. My Deathadder's side button was sticking and constantly pressing the button assigned to it, so I had it RMA and sent back (I paid shipping) but they sent me a brand new in box DeathAdder =) I think they have 2 year of warranty. It was the 1800dpi one, which rocks. I haven't opened it up yet since I got it back in the mail since I ordered an Orochi which should be here tomorrow, so I may have a DeathAdder up for sale at a great price if I like the Orochi enough =)
