I'm looking for a headset that is around $200 dollars (Give or take) that would be good for gaming. I'm looking at the Razer Tiamat 7.1. What do you guys think about that? I also was eyeing the Razer Kraken Pro but it's nothing close to the tiamat so i think ill stray away. I also will be using the audio on my mobo which is 7.1. If you guys know of any good USB sound cards that are 7.1 for less than $50 ish dollars let me know. Also i'm looking at getting a new mic around $150. Looking at the Blue Snowball and the Yeti. Let me know. Also I'm in Canada so if there is some random store in like the US that sells really cheap headsets don't post about it.
    Thanks =D :)

Also USB headsets are fine as long as their amazing :p

Instead of providing you with what you ask, I have a tip. Do not buy one. I bought a $300 headset and I think I've used it five times in a year. A total waste of money and I prefer in-ear headphones because of their versatility. Trust me when I say you'll regret buying them, because I wish that $300 I wasted was put into my car.

Since you are also looking to get a mic, I wouldn't bother with looking at headsets. Stay the hell away from those gimmicky 7.1 multi driver headphones as they are pretty rubbish.

You can grab the Sennheiser HD 598's which are a pretty good buy at the ~$200 mark. I owned a pair for 3 years before I stepped up and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Alternatives at the same price point I would look at are the Beyerdynamic DT 990/770 Pro (I have the 990 Premiums and I find the headband and earpads to be less comfortable when compared to the Senns).

The G930 falls right into that gimmicky 7.1 headset category. I had one and promptly sold it at a loss because it was total utter rubbish to me.

The gimmicky nature of fake 7.1 messed up in several games and voice communication plus the SQ was nothing compared to a equal or lesser priced pair of headphones.

External mics are readily available these days, and I think that is the wiser way to go.

    Thanks for the replies!

Any mics that you'd recommend? Also versatility is not really a problem for me, any other headsets that you'd recommend that aren't crap in your opinion.

I've heard good things about sennheiser one problem is that here in Canada the average price is like $350 for those headsets... Any mics yould recommend and any other headsets? I want the headsets for gaming so footsteps and stuff are important for me. Thanks :D

I've had a pretty good experience with this set. Feel bad for you, bro.

I also had the GameCom 780's and those were decent for the price.

What would you rate them on sound quality. Use for gaming. Mic if any?

Both the 780 and G930 had pretty much equivalent mics. Definitely worked fine, no issues at all for me. I bought the 780's first because they were cheaper, but I started to be annoyed by the cord, so I got the G930's because they're wireless.

Not the best headsets out there, but probably the best between the $60-$120 range.

I'd buy a pair and try them out for a day or two. You'll know right away if you like them...

What in-ear headphone's would you recommend. The catch is that they have to look cool. :)

I can't stand in-ear headphones for gaming. After an hour they start to hurt. I strongly advise against them.

Looking at the Monster DNA's and the Klipsch Image s4i. Also do you think the snowball or yeti would be good?

The snowball external mics have good reviews. Never used one myself.

My laptop has Klipsch, love 'em. Not sure though about that... :(

I guess the argument is the like saying a Fiat Panda (not that there is anything wrong with a Panda) is just as good as a Lovefab NSX. They both get you from point A to point B, just as any pair of headphones will deliver sound to your ears (unless the headphones are broken, or err, you don't have ears). Anyways the point I'm trying to make is that, um, headphones are like...cars?

Seriously though, until you have tried more expensive models, then you can't really comment on whether or not they are worth the extra cost (unless of course you have tried them and just don't care about sound quality).

I can relate to that, the pricing on anything computer/electronics related over in New Zealand is just as terrible (thankfully I'm now in the US). The HD 558's are just under $200CAD ( on Amazon) but yeah those Beyer's are a bit more expensive unfortunately.

I've used them and don't feel the difference is worth 2-3 times the cost of another set. Depends on your preference though. I'm sure some people who produce music or game professionally may need the absolute best, and can justify spending hundreds, even thousands on gear. But for someone like me that just games in his/her free time, I can't justify it.

And comparing cars to headphones, lol. But I get what you're trying to say.

Will look at those. Any other headsets that are good for hearing footsteps and for gaming in general. I play mostly FPS so keep that in mind. Don't worry about music as I have something for that. Thanks for the reply's!

Well if all you want is just positional accuracy for FPS games then the Audio Technica ATH-AD700 is about as good as you'll get for under $200.

    Hi,

I bought some Plantronics Gamecom 777 for a great price, they're pretty decent, they are comfortable but after 3 hours i have to rest a bit (i have big ears u.u), apart from that i find them pretty good for the price.

    Regards.

So surround sound headphones aren't really good for gaming? Also what do you think of the Audio Technica ATH-M50?

Thanks for the reply, I've heard their pretty decent but i've tried them and they hurt on my head after a round of Battlefield 3 so those are a no go. Any others.

I know I've talked about them a lot but what do you think about the Razer Tiamat 7.1?

I've heard the Razer Carcharias and Siberia V2 are pretty decent too although i dunno if they're very comfortable.

Thanks man, will see what I can do.

I think I should get a external sound card for the headset if I get it. I know this is a cheap sound card but it's hard to find a USB sound card with all 6 ports for 7.1. What do u think? Of this vantec card? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232028

I'm not an audiophile myself and maybe i'm a little bit ignorant on the subject so i think i am not the best person to judge it, although on that link on the reviews there's a guy saying that it does not support surround sound through the S/PDIF port. Try reading the reviews from newegg and amazon. Personally i always avoid the 5 stars and 1 star rating comments unless there are not middle ground reviews, people gets either too emotional or to drastic on their opinions sometimes.

    Kind regards
