I'm looking for a gaming headset with its own sound card. These are my options nothing more nothing less please don't offer other brands:
Plantronics GAMECOM 777
ROCCAT Kave Solid
CREATIVE Sound Blaster ARENA Surround USB
SteelSeries 5H V2 USB
Logitech G35
Razer Carcharias (don't know if its has own sound card)
-
Out of that set, I've used the GameCom 777, G35 and Carcharias. If you're looking for surround, the Carcharias does not have its own card; it's analog (i.e. two 3.5mm audio jack connections). That said, it is an excellent stereo headset. The Megalodon is the surround version with its own sound card.
If it must be surround, then my vote goes to the GameCom 777. -

Out of those I would choose the G35s and if you are paying full price for them, you might as well get the G930s because they are even better IMO.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
G35's. I'd put them on the level of my desktop Z-2300's. They sound gooood.
-
G35's are very tight and very hot. Carcharias are perfect.
-
if you go creative, get something with X-fi. I couldn't go back to my overpriced bose set after that.
-
G35s are a tight fit if you have a large head. Steelseries 5Hv2 is not worth the price tag on them. Half price, maybe, but not full price. Though that was without the USB sound card...
-
G35 is about 200$ here. Is it worth it?
-
Not for that price, no.

I just got my Logitech G35's for 100 bucks on amazon... They are they best headphones/set I've ever used in my life... Simply amazing build quality, sound, comfort and usability. I seriously cant think of ANYTHING wrong with these.
-
Not to mention, they have programmable keys and cool voice morphing.
-
I have Gamecom 367
I can they that they are fairly comfortable, and well-built
I have taken them with in my bag, and they have held up well.
The sound quality is also decent.
The only thing is that mine fully cover my ears, so they can make your ears warm, but I assume that is the case in most headsets -

I'm so close myself to picking up the G35's. What I really want to know is how is the surround sound in games like COD5-6 and does it work with DVD movies? Does the surround work in AVI movies as well?
-
The Kaves without any shadow of a doubt, owned a pair since they came out and can't fault them in the least, excellent sound, amazing bass, vibration function for cinema sound. They can get a tiny bit uncomfy after about 8 hrs lol but other then that solid headphones.

I'm from Turkey, everything is expensive

Oh sorry for delays... I'm from Canada, Amazon was having a sale (got the last one). The headphones as previously mentioned are a very solid 9.99999999999/10 stars. The only 2 things I can think that's wrong (entirely on my preference) is the fact that I keep accidentally hitting the G1/2/3 shortcut keys and launching iTunes/ other programs while playing games.... I haven't figured how to disable them in the software Logitech provided... The second is that above the "ear muffs" and below the headband is a small space... And in that small space is the wire that gives sound to the adjacent speaker.... I'm just worried that they might get caught or tugged or something... ANYHOW. I didn't get the G93's??? simply because I don't like wireless products... Why? Because there more expensive, heavier and sometimes latency is an issue.... Besides, the cord that comes with the G35's is MORE than long enough for me to answer my dorm room door!
Also warm ears? I live in one of the warmest places (in the summer anyways, coldest in the winter) in Canada. My ears have only been warm ONCE and that was because I got back from jogging. They stay perfectly normal temps ^_^ -
@Breaking Brian
And hows the surround sound in games and dvd/avi movies with those G35's? -
. As for watching movies, i cant really say, if you turn the volume up, you get the amazing sound effects of certain movies.
PS: when in games, change the audio in the games to 7.1 surround sound, or whatever home surround sound, to get the optimum effect in games. -
Can we add different voice types at G35 for voice morphing?
-
-
the g35 is very very tight and clamps down on my head...hurts after a while
-
Edit: No longer available sorry ;(

Wish I was in the US, I would have grabbed it in an instant
Edit - Or was sick, no wonder they are out -
Well after missing out on the G35 deal, I really would like to get a deal on the G930, any deals?
-
I heard the G35 was abosolute junk and should be avoided all together. If you want something truly decent check out the Razer Megalodon or one of the Astros.
Edit: Nevermind. Only one review said that, all the others seem extremely positive. -

Yea, the G35's are the best headset I've ever used in my life. Also good luck finding a deal on the G930's. However if you think 60 dollars is worth the wireless option, check out Amazon for the best deals. There usually ahead of the industry when it comes to stuff like that.
-
One long-term potential problem for the G35 - and I'm saying this in isolation, not in comparison with anything else - is that the earcup pivot pins are plastic. I do notice a lot of people 'overstretch' phones when putting them on - i.e. really pull them apart - and that is a surefire way to snap these sorts of pins in the medium to long term. -

I've read a lot of reviews on headphones, headsets, USB or otherwise. The consensus seems to be if you have any sense at all, don't buy a USB headset. Buy the Audio Technica ATH-AD700, get a boom mic (or buy a cheap headset and slide it down around your neck), and then pick the sound card of your choice. If you need USB, go with a Turtle Beach USB one. If you have one already, use that.
The audio quality you will get from the Audio Technica headphones blows any headset out of the water. Kaboom. If you REALLY want quality, go for an Astro Gaming MixAmp as your sound card (or as the 5.1 mixer) for your ATH-AD700. And no, the $200 headsets at Astro Gaming also suck. Its the Mixamp that you want.
The great part of this is that if you already have a great set of headphones, you don't have to buy new phones or a headset, you can just get the boom mic or $5 cheap headset (for when you are using your mic) and have money leftover for the MixAmp.
Imo. -
Whatever you do, don't buy a cheap desktop or clip-on microphone. You (and everyone you ever talk to through it) will regret it. A headset is the best choice if you're not looking for audiophile music headphone quality.
-
I've heard good things about the Zalman ZM-MIC1 though. I already have my ATH-A700 which I love. Can anyone with this mic comment on it? Am still wondering if I should get it or another mic instead (I don't want to use my laptop's built in mic
)

g35
....................... -
- It's cheap.
-
The Psyko's look interesting and are made for gaming. Iv never used them though and they are expensive. I would go with the g35s though If I was being realistic. There are tons and tons of happy customers on amazon with them so it would be pritty hard to go wrong with a pair of them.
-
Well I have the G35s and yes they are as good as they say
Only problem for me is that it feels a bit... Heavy-ish for a headset and it grips quite strongly to the point of discomfort if used for long gaming sessions or movie marathons.
I also find it sort of bulky and somewhat hard to just dump it in my backpack when I want to bring it with me. Makes me feel that it might break with all those stuff in my backpack o_o -
The question is, whether you don't mind coming across like a gnat who's lost his voice.
However, it happens to be the only readily available option if you want to retrofit a mic onto a headphone.
I've used everything up to the HE/V90 Orpheus with the ZM-MIC1, and there is a very good reason why my primary headsets are the Beyer MMX 300 and the G35. -
So i was about to buy the G35 (even the price is so high) but then some people said that it's bulky and hurt the head after a while. I'm moving to Vienna at the end of the summer maybe if I wait a bit more I may be able to buy (maybe) it with a less price.
Btw I'm wearing glasses, will that be a problem because mine hurt my ear so bad that I have to take them off after a while and rest. I'm using Creative HS-350 atm -
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
Everybody has a different head so while it may hurt someone elses head, it may not hurt yours. Also, people have different pain tolerances too. Most of the reviews don't mention head hurting but why don't you just buy them from somewhere that has a good return policy?

Austria prices:
G35 129.99€
G930 179€
How is the wireless performance of G930? -

I would say the only con is discomfort, but then again, there are people who have different heads and different level of tolerance of discomfort. -
-
any feedback for gamecom 777?
-
i just got the creative ones from amazon for $55. great sound for the price
Which headset would you choose for gaming?
