Another thing I wanted to find out is which jump drive works best with either ACER ASPIRE 3003WLCI or COMPAQ V2305. Apparently this jump drive is "mandatory" for class presentations and I've never heard of jump drives until this fall. Any help or suggestions on picking a good jump drive for a notebook would be much appreciated.

Basically, they are USB Flash drives and are inexpensive and very useful.

Since you are from BC, go to NCIX and look for any USB Flash drives, at least 256mb, or 512mb would be good.

If both your computers have USB 2 ports, make sure the jump/flash drive is USB 2. There are still some usb 1 types out there.

I did notice there were just two USB ports on the Acer. I forgot to write that down for the Compaq (anyone know?). So I should ask for a jump drive that is USB 2?

I found these via BestBuy. What should I be looking for and which one of these would be the best?

Of those three, my choice would be the Kingston. As for price, I don't know Canadian prices, but in the USA, you can get a 1 gb size for $50us and up. It is regularly in the retail outlets for $60US after rebates. Lexar is also a good brand. In fact BB here has a 512mb Lexar for $35 after an instant rebate.

Make sure the packaging says USB2. And being USB, these drives work with both PC and Mac.

BTW, if you are thinking of going higher than a 1 Gb size, you get to a price point where it is more advantageous to buy a laptop drive and put it in a usb case. Again with US prices, I recently bought a 40 gig laptop drive ($63) and put it in a usb case ($10). True this will be physically larger than a jump drive, but still small enough to fit in a shirt pocket - and less likely to get lost ;)
