I am seeking recommendations for an external monitor - maybe 27" to 32".
    I have just bought a HP ZBook 15 G2, with i7-4810MQ, 256GB M.2 SSD, 8GB DDR3L RAM, and 15.6" QHD+ screen.
I will be editing PDFs, using Photoshop, and MS Office. I will up the RAM to 16GB or 32GB very soon.

It all depends on your budget.

I'd say that a good place to start is a 27" 2560x1440 monitor. They are relatively inexpensive now ($350-$400 for a good IPS model), and are pretty easy to find with plenty of different makes / models out there.

A second option is a 3440x1440 Ultrawide display (21:9 aspect ratio). These are absolutely fantastic for productivity use, since the amount of screen real-estate is very similar to running a dual-monitor setup, except without the monitor bezel in-between the two screens. They are also excellent for watching movies, and immersive gaming, if you can connect it to a mid-high end desktop gaming computer. These will run you around $700 to start. (ignore the cheaper 2560x1080 models).

The third option is a 4K screen (3840x2160), in 27", 30", or 32" sizes. These are decent for productivity work, since they have so many pixels. But it's arguable whether you'd prefer wider aspect ratio (ultrawide), or taller 16:9 aspect ratio. These will run you anywhere from $500 - $1200, depending on model, features, and screen type. They're decent for movies, and decent for games. But movies won't look much different than they do today (since screen aspect ratio is the same); and gaming at 4K is pretty nice. But you do need a high-end gaming desktop to run a 4K monitor at native resolution for gaming.

Have a look at this... It's pretty cheap even in the US and a great 1440p monitor!
