Choice A: Creature II Speakers

Choice B: Logitech X-230

My college roommate has the Creature I Speakers (not II), and I like the sound quality (although I haven't had anything to compare it to), but what I don't like is how the power button is on the subwoofer, and also I don't like how the volume adjustment is just two buttons that I can't press.... It's one of those things where you put your finger on the "+" and the volume goes up and when you put your finger on the "-" the volume goes down. I hate that.
The two have the same price... and the same color. Well, the creature II comes in black as well... So, in your opinion, which is better?

In my experience, Logitech is the best way to go, for PC speakers at least. I've heard the JBL's, and to me they sound a little too tinny for dialogue, and the subwoofer doesn't blend in well with the rest of it.
I'd personally go for the Logitech setup. -
Right, I will be honest, those two don't even compete in the same 2.1 category, well maybe now it does.
The JBL will most likely give you better sound quality over the x230. -

But how big is the difference? If there's just a slight difference (like having 80FPS and 100 FPS), then I'd rather get the Logitech since the volume adjustment things on the JBL bothers me.
-
It the controls bother you so much, don't get the JBL.

Any other suggestions on speakers with good sound quality and not-so-bothersome controls? (In the same price range)
-
Not many, maybe creative has some or altec lansing.
-
I don't think at that price range you would be worrying about sound quality. Just go with what looks good.
-
I completely agree, even at $100 you aren't going to find much difference or the most perfect sound.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
I would go with the 230s for sure. My friend owns a pair and they sound pretty good for the price. THe subwoofer even packs a (small) punch but nothing compared to my 2300s.
-
I'd drop around 150 on a klipsch system, either of their 2.1 systems sound awesome and you can get them for alot less than 150 if you get them on sale.
-
If you're looking for alternate speakers, altec lansing makes the best, in my opinion.
-
Bookshelf (type) speakers e.g. home entertainment speakers, though may cost more will out perform any computer based speakers.

I'm a poor college student, so I can't afford a $150 speaker system for my laptop... that's a bit too luxurious. -
In your price range, these are what i would think about.

Altec Lansing is kinda know for its kickin bass on computer speakers, and these are a pretty sweet deal at 35$ -
if you can spring for a bit more cash, i recommend the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks 2. They are awesome speakers, although they cost a bit more. Top end of the harmon international (JBL/Harmon Kardon) line. I think they will set you back around $150, so dont know if thats outside your price range. But the sound is definately worth the price

Honestly any speaker will do, if you got cash to spend great. If not, well, it's alright. X230 are great for the price, and most likely most people will recommend. Look at creative, altec lansing, and etc...

you could always go for Bose..lol to expensive..but you could always check out amazon and see what they have. you could also check out the Logitech Z-2300 speaker system...they also get a really good rating.
-
Bose is over rated and overly priced. Don't get me wrong, they are still a fine pair of speakers, but all you are paying is for the name, not performance (rather sound quality).
-
Bose is good in certain situations (great for cars) because they make small speakers that can make a lot of sound. At home if you want to hide speakers bose is the way to go. But you still can't beat a huge ass pair of full range speakers and a subwoofer half the size of the TV. But i digress...
-
Sub-$50 = Logitech x230
~$100 = Logitech z2300 or Klipsch Promedia 2.1 (might have the wrong model)
~200 = Onkyo TX-8222 + Insignia 6.5in Bookshelves
~$400 = Same as above, but add in a subwoofer
Which of these speakers is better?
