Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I wasn't sure where to ask.

My father is planning on buying a 40" sony hdtv, but is trying to choose between 2 models.

One is a 1080p and the other is a 720p.

There is a couple hundred dollar price gap.. And he is wondering what the differences are.

And to be honest, with that size TV.. is 1080p worth it?

People have said that unless you have a greater than 40" TV you really won't notice the difference between 720p and 1080p, although I'm not sure if that's true or not.

It highly depends on distance. That's what that calculator is for.
