    Mission MX1
Best stereo speakers up to £150, Awards 2010. A balanced, tuneful little speaker, that gets a firm grasp of the emotional heart of the music.

    or

Altech is the best speakers for a pc you can also go for creeative speakers but they work best if you have creative sound cards.

Consider a laptop speaker only when portability is an issue. Otherwise, get a real speaker for real sound.

    lol.

Does anybody read the OP anymore, or check out his options? He's maxed out at ~£10. Having said that, I have no idea about speakers.

    Google reviews. Read them.

I would say probably the first one as it has most watts.

What you should be looking for is the amount of watts (maximum power output) to determine the maximum volume of the speakers.

Sorry if this was answered somewhere else. If you have external speakers connected to a laptop (not necessarily my ASUS but any machine in general) Should the volume controls within windows (or what ever sound program you are using) be set to the maximum?
This is how I have been doing it, and I use the volume control on the speakers to make adjustments.

    Thanks, Simplified, Josea

Yes, that is how most people do it. When I use external speakers, I always have the windows volume set to maximum. Just remember to turn it down once you unplug your external speakers to not strain your laptop speakers.

The windows volume control is probably only useful for the integrated laptop speakers, or cheap external speakers without volume control.

None of these are any good as far as I can tell. You will get horrible sound from generic speakers, and you will be lucky if they work out of the box and even luckier if they're still churning noise after 30 days. Save your money and your ears. If you're really set on spending ten bucks, just buy a pair of V-Moda Bass Freq IEM's.

Also, if that first pair actually puts out 600W... you're in for one hell of a surprise. That's about twice the maximum power of a typical 5.1 home theater setup. In comparison, a typical USB 2.0 port tops out at 1W (200 mA @ 5V).

Very true, if you're buying one that's USB powered, it's probably not worth it. A dedicated subwoofer is necessary for an acceptable range of frequencies.
