Why do you want ports on your laptop and thickness in your laptop if you can get a thin laptop + universal port replicator?
My only thought was that universal port replicators must not be as reliable as ports built into the laptop.

Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
Why should one carry a port replicator with his notebook? It's inconvenient and looks ugly.

Port replicator: made to stay stationary and have the peripherals permanently plugged in on a desk. The main use case for one, is you arrive at the office, dock the laptop and start working with your kb/mouse, larger monitor and other peripherals without having to plug everything in.
You want the ports on the laptop for when you're not going to be at the office. -
Why do I have to limit myself to a port replicator, and why should I spend additional money on getting one? And why do I have to reduce the capacity of my backpack by carrying one around with me all the time?

I don't like the functionality or look of them really. For some people in some situations I can see the benefit though.

... because a lot of people are too cheap to spend ~$200 on a proper port replicator?
I like the Lenovo interpretation, though I wish someone would bring back truly dockable ultralights (not Sony for whom it used to be a fixture, obviously).
