Ok, im looking at buying a "handheld PC" like Ipod TOuch and Archos 604. I want to use it in a few specific public places, but i dont know if there is WiFi that I can find there. I want a gadget that will tell me if there are any networks (unsecured) that I can use. I looked at this : http://www.x-tremegeek.com/templates/SearchDetail.asp?productID=14533&ta=detail_img&pi=Y&st=5
But im not sure if thats what i want, and its more than i wanted to spend, can anyone clarify its the right thing and/or find it cheaper
    ? thanks in advance.

My suggestion is the Targus WiFi Scanner ACW20US. It MSRP is $60, but you can get from newegg.com for about $46. It shows signal type, strength, security, and other details on its LCD. Pretty useful in my opinion

    heres the link,
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-_-Accessories+-+Wireless-_-Targus-_-33199001

Also try looking around the web, you can find some pretty good ones from belkin, iogear, and some OEMs.
