Can I connect a wide screen 19" Samsung Syncmaster LCD Monitor (1440x900) to my 15" non-wide screen laptop (1024x768)? Will the Image stretch or something? I have an ATI express 200m card.

i actually had a question about this today as well. you can connect to an external monitor by plugging it in and pressing the Fn+F7 key (that is for my sony at least). it might be Fn+F10 or Fn+F8. look at your function keys and look for the image with a LCD--->monitor or something. as for your resolution, i think that depends the specifications of your external monitor.

Are you going to use the external monitor as a secondary monitor? (like making a stretched desktop) or are you going to use the external monitor as a standalone monitor?

Either way I think your wallpaper would be stretched and deformed. But I think you should be able to attach the screen to your computer. I don't really know about your graphics card so somebody has to help you about that.

I would be using the external as a stand alone monitor- using my lappy as a desktop when im at home.

If your card supports it, it will show it will display it in the monitor's resolution.

Works fine for me, a normal 1400x1050 15" with a Widescreen 1680x1050 20.1", works awesome whether its just the 20.1" or when I use dual screens(which I now love).

You will have to tinker around with the settings using ATI's programs, took me a good hour or so to figure out how everything goes.

I think you would be better off to use it as a dual screen versus just a stand alone external. Some might not say so but I can tell you that once you've gotten used to it you can't go back to just one single monitor. Having two of them is just much to nice.

Hmmm...I don't know about that. I mean what can you do with dual monitors? I mean I use it sometimes for video editing or pictures, but I can't imagine it using it all the time.

When I had my 19", I blew up Stargate Atlantis on the big screen and played games on the little one, it was fantastic.

To the OP, catalyst control center has wizards to set up the widescreen resolutions, the X200 supports them.
