I've got a Razer DeathAdder, not opening it until my new laptop arrives on Monday. Anyway I'm pretty decent at FPS e.g. CS:S and am wondering whether the new mouse will help me to get better? I never used a proper gaming mouse only conventional mice - none expensive.

Honestly there is no "experience" gain from mice. Just the ease of moving around and being able to be a little more precise with shots. If you suck at FPS a gaming mouse won't make you "godlike" and nore will a gaming mouse hurt your ability to play. It just makes it more comfortable and quicker to turn around in cases when you put the DPI at high. :)

My experience is having a good mouse that you can really bump the sensitivity up on will help. That way you can turn around and look around quicker to get people before they get you. :)

Of course, it takes time to get used to playing with a sensitive mouse, but the payoff is great from my experience. I can play a lot better with my G5 than any other mouse I have used.

Yea, like Mark said, it helps with turning around fast but it all goes down to how you play. At first with the DPI on high you won't be able to shoot properly, but after a couple of games you'll get the hang of it :)

Yay! I always find that I can't turn around quick enough in games so sounds like it will be a great help :)

I have a Deathadder, it's quite nice. I don't even play FPS that much...hell, I just love having the ultra-high sensitivity for normal tasks.

I've been gaming for almost 10 years now, and I've found that finding a mouse that fits the size of your hand and is comfortable for you is more important than how high the DPI or sensitivity rating is.
When you're going to spend at least 2 hours a day twisting that wrist, it's pretty important to know that there won't be any long-term effects eg. carpal-tunnel syndrome anyone?

my bro plays with a free Philips optical mouse ...if u look at it u ll put its value at $5-$10...but he plays pretty good...actually he is a pro..

In my case, i use deathadder...and as guys above mention..that problem of turning back really gets solved...further more..the mouse has 1ms response so u are able to snipe before getting pwned..

DeathAdder is a great purchase & i wud recommend it above other logitech mice which cost a fortune!.

Another advantage: Deathadder is really friendly with sweaty palms...if u sweat dont worry..u still wont lose grip of it

Great :D I ain't not being able to play with sweaty palms and I've always wondered why I seem to shoot first but get killed when I've got better ping. Now I know it's down to the response of the mouse I was using.

No its a mini keyboard, you can program it to customize the keys anyway you want, in fact it has up to 104 functions, but its super easy to setup, and uses a usb port for connection I set it for bioshock and was really impressed. I bought it just to try it thinking I probably would return it But it aint going back! It also has a scroll wheel and is very compact and well shaped got it at bestbuy $37 a real bargain check it out on their website. Plus +++++ you will not wear out your keyboard and its faster.

Get the n52 or Saiteks new one as well, then take the time to setup your profiles for mouse and controller pad.

I've burned through 2 nost pads...they are great for MMO's as well (macroing functions) Although I really want to try out that Saitek.

A big tip to FPS gamers.

Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options

    1. Set your pointer to speed to the middle notch (sixth place)

    2. Disable ALL mouse acceleration and Enhancing Pointer Precision options.

Use this is make sure ALL mouse acceleration is disabled:

yup...acceleration should be off....otherwise you will over-move your crosshair always...your crosshair will always move more than u intended it to be...

Use acceleration only when not gaming

Actually its fine to disable it altogether also leave the point sensitivity at 6 as that is the Windows default and any other values slower or faster will cause the mouse to skip pixels and it will be less accurate.

Also disable any "smooth mouse, smooth pointer" effects in games.

After I did what I mentioned my aiming and precision improved incredibly.

David Copperfield doesn't need a wand.

    Indeed

Put him on the court 20 years ago without any fancy equipment and he would still mop the floor with anyone.

But this is dragging off-topic. Bottom line - getting a "gaming" mouse certainly won't hurt you, but it's not going to make you a superstar overnight.
