    These will work.

    Would suggest moving up to a 7200rpm drive. It will be a big boost over the 5400rpm drive.

    PATA and IDE are the same.

    Yes, both of these, HD and enclosure, have the same connector, PATA (IDE)

    cool, thanks for the replies- the reason I am getting this combo is that I want a portable and USB only powered hd. That means I had to get a notebook drive and the 5400.3 is the biggest available notebook drive right now. I think there is a hitachi one aswell.

    Segate makes good HDs. Even though that drive is only 5400RPM it might be OK depending on what you're planning to use it for. If just for backup (mostly storing things) then it do the job well. :)

    By the way, also don't forget that some of these 2.5 drives/enclosures may require 2 USB ports, not one.
