I was wondering if any of you have these. I would really like to record and be albe to stop tv but im not sure if WinTV-USB2 will do that very well.

I am curious as well. Also, for some odd reason on Newegg the no-name brands seem to get better user reviews than ATI. So many choices at Newegg from companies I never heard of that I don't know what to buy. Wish I knew how much they weighed too. Since I have an ultraportable, a pound or two difference between TV tuners would make a large difference to me.

The hauppauge "pvr" models have a hardware mpeg2 encoding chip. They are always recording what you are watching to mpeg2 so what you see is slightly behind realtime... so these are not a good option if you want to get output from a video game into your laptop. These models are also compatible with MS's Media Center. I think these have very good video quality.

The non-pvr models feed the video directly to tv application... and if you choose to record it, the CPU does the work. If you want to do stuff while you are recording a program your system will be sluggish and you may get glitches in your recordings. Recording quality is usually lower quality than the pvr models.
