    Hi...

Any recommendations for easy to set up and use wireless printers? I am getting tired of plugging in the printer to take printouts. Hopefully, it should be able to support 3 machines (since between my partner and me we have a laptop each and I general purpose laptop that is for guest use).

Edit: Currently, I use an ancient (but still working fine) 3-in-One unit from HP DeskJet 4185 (scans, phtocopies and prints in colour) and I'd prefer to have the same facilties in a single unit, if possible, that is.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    Cheers!

Thanks. This looks good. Sorry for the really n00b question, but is this literally 'plug and play'? Also, isn't the print speed a bit slow on this? 15 pages per minute in B/W?

Thanks. This actually looks damn good. Can you tell me (1) how fast is the printing in terms of pages per minute (in b/w only) and (2) how long does the ink last (again in terms of pages)?

    Cheers!

Ohh, price just went down on that link to $154.99 with free shipping! ;) (looks like it is being sold thru buy.com).

Well it states that Laser speeds of 9 ppm in black..so for me that is pretty fast :) I know that when I am sitting and I hit print for say 4 pages..by the time I get up to retrieve after hitting the print button it seems like they are literally done! :)

I got the printer in 1/10, and I just had to replace the starter cartridges...so really not bad! :)

It's a nice setup...I like the fact it can even do 2-sided copying, and feed up to 30 pages!

    Hope that helps!

    Cin...

@ Cin...yes your points certainly are helpful. Thanks. This is certainly one to consider. The only thing is sometimes I print 20-30 pages at a time...though the 2-sided printing is a really cool feature!

Do you need colour or is B&W fine? Laser or inkjet?

Colour, I will need, but inkjet is probably more economical given my usage patterns and the volume of printing that I would probably do. Also, a built in scanner and photo-copy option is a must. If the scanner option is wireless then even better! I seriously want to do away with wires etc.

well, you could see if a wireless router + usb support + firmware(tomato maybe for printing and scanning) could work... that would definitely open up a lot more options, though you need to make sure that the router AND printer supports wireless scanning

that saying, it might be more worthwhile to get a laser printer for b&w printing, and use a dedicated color printer(save $ on the black ink) or print in a shop...

Ummm...that dedicated colour printer or the option to print in a shop/ store would not work because the documents will have both b/w text and colour images mixed up. That's just the nature of the documents that I generate (and is required of me to generate).

I did not get the first part of what you said: router+hub+firmware...could you please explain how this works or what the set up is? Sorry for appearing dense.

I have a Photosmart, and had one before this one. I love them, and ink is pretty cheap. Photos come out in great quality and you have the convenience of an all-in-one.

some routers have a usb port for printing(from any computer connected to the router)... some even support scanning

    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

^ is the router i have currently...printer(Brother HL2140 USB ONLY) works 100% across all the computers i have, but i dont have a scanner to test :(.. i'm also running a third party firmware(Tomato, not the stock firmware)

but this means that you are NOT limited to just wireless printers... though you may have to risk that the scanning function does not work across all the computers and OSes you have

OK. Thanks. I understand now. I currently have the HP4185 All-in-One. I'll try that through my existing router and see if it works. Else the HP or Lexmark that MDR8850 suggests above may be a way to go.
