my friends Logitech g700 lags in newer games, it is fine in older games (pre 2005) and in windows but during L4D and even BF2 it lags noticeably. p8711 gatway gaming laptop w/ 9800m gts and windows vista 64. tried software/drivers did not help or kind of even made it worse.

The only thing I can think of besides wireless interference ( which is unlikely if you're in the same place playing both games), is that the Newer gaming are taking the raw mouse-data, while the older games are getting their mouse-data from windows ( through setpoint). Set point could be "smoothing" the mouse action, because it's something that is normal for wireless mouses. Try going into the options of one of your newer games and setting it so that it uses windows for the mouse info.

This is just an educated guess, so bear with me.

It might be interference for my case, But its weird since I do not notice any stuttering or lag on older games but with Battlefield 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 I can notice it sometimes. Games like Quake 3/Simcity 3000 are flawless

Yes!!! he tried quake 3 and unreal 99 but not sim city i think. Amazing to find others are having this issue, when the G700 is so highly reviewed. Well I told him to get the razer orochi, but I guess the G700 is usually good too, ashame he is having this issue, he just spent nearly $1200 on a new TV to play games. How frustrating it must be for him...any other possible causes?

Alot of modern games (especially the multiplatform ones and PC ports) have all kinds of crazy lag/acceleration going on, possibly because control was designed to be a happy medium between mouse and analogue stick. Deus Ex 3 and Skyrim are two recent examples. Deus Ex 3 is almost unplayable for me with the default mouse settings and SSAO enabled but its absolutely fine on a 360 controller.

It is also worth mentioning that certain types of post processing effects like depth of field (DoF) and screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO) can introduce latency so you may want to try turning them off.

This applies whether or not you have a wired or wireless mouse. I don't know if its worse with wireless as all my computer mice are wired.

Try turning down the polling rate and see if that makes any difference.
