A colleague of mine is looking for a wireless desktop keyboard with a built-in fingerprint scanner. However, I'm having some difficulty finding one. Do you guys know of any? Brand/price are not important.

    Thanks,
    -Chaz

Hmm..no luck Chaz. Interesting that I couldn't find one that met your specs.

If the keyboard HAS to be wireless, and money isn't a factor, then you can get a wireless USB hub. The Belkin CableFree recently came out, and there is a competing model (from a company I can't remember) ~they run about $200 to hook up four USB devices.

That way you could buy the wired keyboard that has the fingerprint reader.

Yeah I'm not having any success either. You'd think there would be such a combo already on the market but I guess now we know there isn't. I appreciate the help you've offered.

@Gautam - interesting idea. The Wireless USB hub by Belkin is about $190 on Newegg. I'll see if he's interested in that, thanks.

Now that I think about it the whole wireless fingerprint reader doesn't really make sense, it's kind of like a wireless front door lock.

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,124978-page,1/article.html?RSS=RSS
"Because the fingerprint image is transferred unencrypted from the Fingerprint Reader to the PC, it could be stolen using a variety of hardware and software technologies, called "sniffers," that monitor such traffic, said Kiviharju, a researcher with the Finnish Defense Forces. "The fingerprint that can be sniffed is pretty good quality," he said."

Doing it all wirelessly is probely even easier.

That's a good point about security Antitang, thanks for chiming in. Unless some sort of encryption was used for the fingerprint reader it would be rather easy to grab . . .
