Hi, first poster here![]()
What i am looking for is a decent mouse for medium to heavy everyday usage. I am not a gamer. So i guess what i am looking for is as follows:
-wireless: i sometimes watch movies from my bed, 2-3m(6-8ft) away from my desk, so i want to use the mouse as a remote control. My bed is slightly below my desk level, will that be a problem for some mice and receivers? Also that means i want it to work on some rough surfaces like bed sheets and preferably without mouse pad.
-disposable batteries: i want to have long battery life, at least 1-2 months, i don't want rechargeable battery, as i know li-on batteries die after some time and i plan to use the mouse at least for a few years to come.
-medium to large size: dont need the small travel mice, i want a relatively big mouse. I guess i have palm grip, i.e. i click the buttons with a large part of my fingers.
-nano receiver or bluetooth. I hate stuff sticking out of my laptop, so it should be either very small receiver or bluetooth. I have 4 USB ports, so blocking one is not really a problem yet for me. This brings me to first point - can the nano receiver deal with the range mentioned earlier? Ideally i would want a bluetooth mouse(i have integrated BT), but i see they aren't very popular choices - the reassociation lag and the interference really bother me. Is it that bad?
-few extra buttons are nice, but no need for more then 2-3.
-budget as stated up to $70, but i guess i can spare a little more if it is worth it.
OK, few of the options i consider:
Logitech MX1100 - generally good reviews around, but i hate the big receiver. Also i might want to buy wireless keyboard too soon and i prefer to associate it with the same receiver, which i understand is only possible with the nano receivers? I guess i can make a compromise in the end if it is worth it.
Logitech VX Nano - looks good, but the double-clicking issue really puts me off. Also is it Nano, because of the small size or because of the nano receiver? Confusing...
Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 - i really liked this one, but on amazon there are many people with association and lagging problems. That really annoys me. I want to spend some extra time researching, but in the end i want a stable mouse without any issues.
Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX - the new technology seems promising, also its a bit over my budget. Haven't read some reviews yet as it is relatively new, im afraid the new technology might backfire, also i don't work on a glass, so it seems im overpaying for stuff i dont need.
Any recommendations from you?![]()

I am using the VX nano and I like it so far. I have not had any double clicking issues.
the nano is just for the receiver but it is rather small. I also use it as a remote from my bed and have no issues.
I would avoid bluetooth, I have never had a good experience with it. -
I heavily recommend the arc mouse. Smooth, tracks good on most surfaces and small when folded. I'm a VERY picky mouse user, and I've moved between a few mice (Razer, Mighty Mouse, Some logitech one) till I settled on the Arc.
-
The Arc is nice, but if you rely heavily on thumb buttons, be warned that the thumb button on the Arc is rather awkwardly positioned. It's much further forward than you would expect.
-
The arc looked like exactly what i need at first and i can't believe it went below my radar. However checking the reviews on amazon i see TONS of people reporting problems with the scroll wheel.
It is a shame, because except that everyone seems to love the mouse.
It isn't supposed to be this hard... -
I have to second the Arc mouse. A friend of mine has got one and he loves it. The scroll wheel issue was non existent in his case.
Keep in mind, Bluetooth mice are going to get a much lower battery life than other wireless mice. -
-
Yeah, avoid Logitech.

VX Nano FTW! I LOVE IT! I thought it might be a big small, but I don't realize it is as small as it is, and the nano receiver tucks very nicely into your USB port and isn't intrusive at all. As a matter of fact I bought a spare because it seems any time I find something I really like, and it eventually dies, I can never find a decent replacement.

How about Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000?
It's a large size mouse, uses laser technology, connects with notebook's internal bluetooth adapter (although provided with USB bluetooth dongle), uses 1 AA battery (rechargeable AA battery provided, but of course can be replaced with ordinary AA battery), and it has 5 buttons with 4-way scroll. -
OK, i think i will settle for either VX Nano or Microsoft Arc. I hope i will have luck and the double clicking and the scroll wheel problems wont appear on my device.
I decided against the large dongle and against bluetooth, because the reports on its reliability are very mixed.
Thanks everyone. -

I am VERY picky about mice, and I actually got the arc to replace another mouse because I didn't like the click wheel. The wheel on the arc is awesome. The fourth button is a bit farther than most mice, but I consider that an advantage - you're less likely to accidentally click it. I use it regularly for Switcher (like Expose for Windows) and I love this mouse.

I used to use a VX Nano until it broke and Logitech refuses to replace it as I lost the receipt (Logitech does not provide warranty support for products without receipt in Australia). I recently bought a Microsoft Mobile Mouse 6000, with the micro USB receiver and never looked back.
Wireless mouse up to $70 (i am very picky:P)
