Not sure if this exists, but here goes...

I'm looking for a set of wireless speakers which I can transmit audio to, from my laptop. The idea would be that the speakers are set up somewhere in a room and are powered by AC. I then would have a wireless connector attached to my laptop that would feed the speakers audio. Does anyone know of something such as this? Sure, I suppose I could run a cable to a set of conventional speakers, but that would be less fun now wouldn't it.

It exsists in a few forms.

The easiest in my opinion and most common is just a bluetooth receiver, transmit the audio via bluetooth to the reciever and hook the reciever to any speakers you want (more choices in speakers and much cheaper than any kind of dedicated wireless speakers)

If you do not have bluetooth, you can just get a usb bluetooth dongle.

You would need an audio transmitter and an audio receiver. Like Vicious mentioned above, Bluetooth is probably the best way to go and cheap, there is limitation in distance and sometimes audio distortion. Keyword "Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP" search will give you some good ideas.

    cheers ...

You could go about doing this in a couple of ways as ViciousXUSMC and qhn have noted.

Aside from the usual Bluetooth connections, you could go for a wireless transmitter/receptor unit like the Akoo Kima KS110 wireless audio transmitter you can find on this link. Something like this would send audio from your PC to a receptor unit attached to your audio gear located elsewhere. This means that you can use practically any speaker (doesn't have to be wireless) as long as you connect it to the receiver unit.

Keep in mind though that if you purchase Bluetooth speakers, they would be useful not only for your notebook (if it has bluetooth), but also for other mobile devices which can transmit audio via Bluetooth (cellphones, smartphones, DAPs, PMPs, mp3 players, etc.).

By the way, are you looking for portable ones? Or stationary big ones with better sound quality? Any budget as well?

You can find a couple of Wireless speakers at New Egg.

Parrot Speakers also make some good wireless units. The Parrot Party mobile speakers were reviewed on NBR here. You can also checkout a review for the bigger Parrot Boombox (but only powered by AC) here..

For other commonly bought wireless systems, you can check the following:
    Altec Lansing T515
Altec Lansing inMotion SoundBlade Bluetooth A2DP Speaker/Speakerphone (Black)
Soundmatters FOXLMB Portable Stereo Loudspeaker with Bluetooth 2.0
    Artdio BT-328 18-Watt 2.1 Bluetooth Speaker System
Sony SRSBTM30 Bluetooth Wireless Speaker for iPod and MP3 Players
BlueAnt M1 Bluetooth Music Streaming Stereo Speakers Portable Speakerphone

    Hope it helps...
