Ok so here is my philosophy on the whole corded vs wireless idea for a notebook.
When you are going around portably in classes or such with your notebook, you are most likely going to be using the touchpad since that's all you'll have. Then, when you get home and plug in your laptop, you can use a corded mouse since there will be cords coming out of your laptop anyway.
I have decided on a corded mouse so I wont ever have to deal with batteries (MX518).
But I was wondering, can you transmit power wirelessly? For example, charge something wirelessly, use wireless mouse without batteries. I know that you can do that with things in close range, like my electric toothbrush doesn't actually have contacts, it just gets really close and charges magnetically somehow. If they could use that somehow for a mouse then you would be wireless and not worry about batteries. Ideas?

Lol,I don't think you charge anything wirelessly. If that's the case I would never have to plug in my laptop!!

My toothbrush charges wirelessly, it's just that the charging jack has to be within half an inch of the toothbrush.

Interesting. A technology worth looking into, and a toothbrush worth taking apart

i have a wireless mouse. i bought it last christmas. i leave it on all the time because i always forget to turn it off. 2 days ago, the mouse gave me the lo batt warning light. 3 months (not counting how long it had been sitting on the shelf in best buy) before having to replace batt is not a prob for me.
battery issue aside, once you use a cordless mouse, you won't want to go back. i used a mouse in grad school, the trackpad frustrates me. if i have no mouse i navigate mostly with kb shortcuts.
if you can borrow a cordless mouse for a couple days, you should check it out and see which you like better. -
If you were to use your mouse in large public places, ie. Lecture Hall, or Local Coffee shop; how likely would you encounter interference with other wireless mice. I am specifically looking into logitech, but anyother brand would be fine too.
Thanks,

Yeah, you can charge things wirelessly using inductance coils. Take cochlear implants for instance. The replacable battery unit is on the outside of the head, but the fancy electronics are on the inside.

I just bought a cheap corded mouse off of new egg. It works well for just staying at my desk. I just use the trackpad when I bring my laptop to different locations other than my room.

I have a Kingston Pocket Mouse Pro. Its corded but the usb jack can be retracted into the mouse. The wire that connnects it is very light and flimsy and after being rolled into the mouse, when its out it has a tendancy to form curls. These get in the way when im using the mouse and so i have to shove them away.
A little problem but problem nonetheless. Drumfu, can you please tell me which wireless mouse you were using. If it lasts that long then thats awsome!
