my speaker keeps making popping noises every now and then which gets annoying. I think it's starting to reach the end of it's life. No biggie as i got it as a freebie from a friend moving away..

the speaker is a Cambridge Soundworks, just like this..
    http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/store/category.cgi?category=spk_multimedia&item=c1pcwzzzz
but my model has 4 of those mini speakers instead of just two.

what I'm looking for as a replacement, is something that's a 3 piece set as I don't have room to utilize the 2 extra speakers. Also want something that sounds just as good (or better), but having a frontal power button and a front headseat audio port.. for less than $60.. i found this Altec Lansing VS2221 that seems to fit the bill

unfortunately I'm illiterate to what's good and not good on computer speakers.. I just know the Altec has more watts for power output. can anyone who has a better background see if this Altec is at least comparable to my current cambridge?

Hey Goren, did you try hooking up the speakers up to some other device? That way you can isolate wether or not the speakers are going.

The best 2.1 speakers out there are the Logitech Z-2300's, but they're a bit expensvie at $85. For around $60, I recommend the Altec Lansing V4121 2.1's for $58, found here.

Also, I like the the Logitech Z-230's if you want to spend around $35 - here. I am going to buy a pair of those for my desktop soon. Heard they offer great sound quality for the price.

ah i've seen the logitech z230 being mentioned a couple of times. One of my friend's keeps insisting to avoid those speakers that have those two small thingies, and opt for the ones with the one big hole.. yes.. i am totally n00b when it comes to audio :p

Hm, everybody who I've talked to loves the 2300's - CNet.com did a review on them - here.

I'm not that big of an audio fanatic myself...
