I've just bought an XPS 15 to replace my old Dell Inspiron and I need to get a car charger since we often travel to National Parks or other camping destinations. The Dell charger is $90. I hate to spend that much, but I have concerns that other 90watt chargers could damage my laptop. I see Inverters but I know nothing at all about them. If anyone here has dealt with this issue I would be grateful for input on how you handled it. Thanx, Jony

Buy an inverter. It's useful for far more than just the laptop.

Look at the AC adapter. It will have a max input amperage listed. Multiply that by 120 (I'm assuming you are US) and that the minimum wattage inverter you need to buy. Personally I'd buy the largest that fits your budget but will still run from a cig lighter plug unless you are comfortable with hard wiring it.

Why not just buy a 120W universal AC/DC power adapter off eBay for around $25 shipped?
