So I bought a 360 wireless controller a while back to play Xbox with some friends and occassionally use it for certain PC games that work better with an Xbox controller.

Well I didn't try to install it until today. I downloaded the newest drivers from the Microsoft site, installed them and then plugged the controller into my computer via the USB charger. It registers the device under the "unspecified" category and the green lights just blink. The controller doesn't respond in anyway and isnt registering on the Microsoft Accessory Status or joy.cpl.

I've installed/uninstalled the drivers multiple times and nothing changes.

    ... wireless controller?

You need the wireless adapter not the charging cable that is only for charging.

I don't know where people got the idea it acts as a data cable, I just posted it does not do that on another thread yesterday.

Ah thanks. Well I was told that all I needed was the charging cable to make it work. It hooks up directly to the controller, not just the battery pack so it made sense to me, I guess Microsoft just wants to get more money out of me. Guess I'll be ordering a wireless adapter here shortly.
