I hate choosing, it's one of my biggest problems. I take sooo long picking out electronics because I want the best for me. Anyway, that's my background.
Now, what mouse do you have and what do you like about it that trumps it over others?
For me, i'm looking at Razer mainly, but logitech maybe. I'm straying away from logitech because they are mainly for palm grippers, and I am a claw gripper, so i'm leaning toward Razer mice. I hardly play FPS, I mostly play RTS and MMORPG. Really, only playing Warcraft 3 FT Dota right now.
The only exception, I just found out about the Logitech G3, and it has a design like my old logitech optical mouse, but it is a lazer 2000 dpi, 1 side button on each side, and on the fly dpi swapping in the top. I'm thinking right side buttons are difficult to use, while even the left thumb button might be difficult for a veteran of a 3 button mouse. The g5 g7 and g9 are, imo, too bulky for a claw gripper. The Logitech G3 is also pretty cheap, around 25$.
Now onto razer!
Razer, i'm thinking four choices: Deathadder or Diamondback if I want extra side buttons, if not, Krait or Salmosa. I like the deathadder as it seems the side buttons fit more, and it's right handed (but i have not used right handed mice). The diamondback might be problem with its side buttons. Both of them have nice looks and I prefer blue, so either one. The Krait still has nice lights, although not my color, and the Salmosa no lights. They are same price, so I don't know what to get between those. Overall, the Deathadder is what i'm leaning towards because of its right hand design, its looks, and the side buttons are better than the Diamondback.
So, if you have personal experience with these mouses, or any mouse that you think I might like as a claw gripper, post why. I'm hoping this will also help indecisive people like me.
-
i have a razer lachesis and like it a lot because it fits my hand pretty good and works great after you get used to it for a day or so.
-
Hehe, too expensive for me, and 9 buttons is way too much for me too. I don't need 4000 dpi for RTS games XD.
I think I might have to scratch out the deathadder as a choice because its for palm grippers and i'm a claw grip/fingertip grip guy. -
Do you think a deathadder would fit fine on a claw/fingertip grip person? Is there anywhere I can go to test these mouses in person?
I want one with a side button on the thumb side only, not on the pinky/ring finger side.
edit: boy oh boy i just found out the g9 is specifically for claw grippers. I hate how it looks, but i might go for it, since i never look at my mouse anyway. My mouse is in the keyboard/mouse shelf and my hand is inside all the time. So expensive though. -
for the g9, u can buy different outer cases for it. different outer cases will have different ergonomics. that means u can turn the g9 into a claw-type or grip-type by simply switchin the outer cases around. i think they come in different case colors too, but don't quote me on that.
do u have a nice gamin mouse pad yet? a properly matched mouse + mouse pad, that fits yur sensitivity play style, will make a night and day difference. -
i have a white razer mouse but i forgot its name. I think its just a white version of diamond back with another name. But it gets dirt really fast.
-
-
i don't use a good mouse pad either, and only move the mouse about an inch each way. i am going to my a better mouse pad tho.
-
i guess its just personal preference then. i'm a low sensitivity player and to me, the mat is just important as the mouse. i need a "control-type surface". if i used a regular plastic or slick-surfaced mat, it would just be too jumpy and inaccurate for me.
but trust me, i never knew a good mouse pad made such a big difference in smoothness and accuracy til i bought one. if u'r a low sensitivity type then u should really check out a good "control-type" mat. i can't really comment on how big of a difference it'll make for high-sensitivity players.
if u are limited on space then check out the medium-sized ones that can fold up. the exactmat (what i use) is a solid piece of aluminum, so it's not as ergonomic. -
for fps gaming, u will need a mouse pad. for normal use, there's no need for a mousepad. I dun use any mousepad for my razer. haha
-
Deathadder is a great choice.
Mousepads are overrated. I use my Razer Mantis as a pad where my LCD screen sits on.
Im currently using a $1 IKEA pad. -
-
Claw grip when gaming and Palm grip on normal use and photoshopping
-
a good mouse pad is more important for me. -
-
G9 is perfect for claw grip, I love mine. I went from a Diamondback 3G to the g9 after two RMA's. The two diamondback 3gs i got both had squeaky mouse wheels.
g9 actually looks nice in person with the wide satin grip. it kind of grows on you -
-
I use the Kensington Slimblade. Very confortable.
-
ive got the logitech G9 and im a claw grip. If you use the smaller grip they supply your hand doesnt touch the mouse. The mouse is great and the support from logitech is great as well. They didnt ask many questions and they sent me a new G9. Didnt even have to send my old one back.
The best way to chooose is to go to your local store and try them out for yourself. Everyone is going to say the mouse they have is great and you should get it, but you will never know the difference. -
I own way too many high end mice to list, including Razer, Logitechs, Saiteks, etc. My top two choices at this time are the Logitech G9 and Ikari Steel Series Lazer. The G9 has a lot of grip shell flex that required felt pad inserts to correct, but it's a great performer otherwise. The Ikari Steel Series has many features going for it: nice ergo comfort shape, completely driverless operation, 1-3200cpi @ 1cpi adjustment, full rubberized coating, very stable mouse base (unlike many Razers), macro support, etc. It's not too expensive either... check out newegg for more details.
-
I am wondering if the G9 is worth it for me. It's about at the least 2x more expensive than any other mouse I plan to purchase.
I went to a local best buy and tried out the mice there. I don't believe it was an accurate measure because the mice were put up so high. Also, the only available "gaming" mice there for display were the logitech mx518 and g5. The deathadder and Lachesis were there but not floor items. -

vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
i got the logitech vx nano love it :]

Just go ahead and get one at bestbuy. There's a 30-day return policy, right?

I'd definitely go for the G9 if it wasn't for it's price. The cheapest I can get it, it seems, is around 70$ AR. That's still about 2x more than some of the other mice I am considering. Honestly, the G9 is overkill. 3200 DPI i do not require and i'm paying for it >.<. But still, the shape of the mouse seems the best fit. I like the position of the thumb buttons, the on-the-fly dpi swapping, and the overall shape that is made for claw grippers. I don't like customizing because, as you can tell, i'm very picky. Thus, it's going to be endless w/ me whether I want to use 40grams of weight or 20 grams, or wide load or precision grip... etc. You get my point.
I'm actually still pretty unsure about DPI and polling rates and all that extra on the mouse.
Sooo unsure. -
G5 FTW I have noticed wear with mine though ... grips at finger tips are now slippery
-
No G5 for me, too bulky and designed for palm grippers; i'm a claw gripper.
I just tried playing CS with my crappy HP 1000 dpi mouse (temp replacement) and wow, my shots were so unstable. I was shooting everywhere. It might have been that I was rusty too... but man i'm wondering will I have this problem with the gaming mouses w/ high dpi's? My old logitech optical mouse was probably equal to or less than 400 dpi. -
... take a 15.4" screen and I open my hand.. tip of my thumb touches bottom of screen while pinkie touches top

Anybody know how often or where I can purchase a G9 for a good price? The lowest was a deal today that expired from tigerdirect. I believe it was around 55$ AR before tax/shipping. Reading other forums I see that there was some available for around 45$ AR.
-
Getting a low price is always a waiting game. I bought mine for $55 after rebate from Amazon. Bought a death adder for ~28 from circuit city, G5 for ~35 from buy.com, G3 for ~25 etc.
-
Two truly great mice. -
So I went to best buy and purchased a deathadder (which I will be returning) to try it out.
First looks/feel: It's big. It feels pretty nice though, and it allows me to at least fingertip grip it.
After adjusting sensitivity/dpi, I set to try it out on CS. It did help my aim quite a bit, but after 1 and 1/2 hours, my hand had a burning sensation. Now my hand is still pretty uncomfortable for some reason... I'm not sure if the blue led on the back is the case of this.
I like the mouse and how it feels, but it's not perfect. The thumb buttons I barely use. One I used to voice chat, the other for on-the-fly sensitivity. The on-the-fly sensitivity sucked, as you had to hold the button and scroll up/down to swap it. There is another mode to just instantly swap down/up or to a set number with a click. So, you can put the side buttons to go up and down, respectively, or have one be set at 1800 dpi and another at 400 dpi.
I did not find the on-fly-sensitivity useful, even lowering down on awping was pretty horrid and slow. Maybe it's useful for other games, but on CS, where one shot kills, not very useful. Even more, I had to bind a button to it, making the one or both the side buttons useless for other things.
Now i'm going to try play an RTS w/ it, dota. -
Give it a few days of gaming so you get accustomed to it.
-
I'll see. I'm trying to compare it to a G9. I'm already kinda accustomed to the sensitivity, I have it set pretty low but i still just move it w/ my fingertips. It's just my hand has this slight burning some sensation for some reason.
-
Getting a new mouse can do that to your hand, I know my G9 had that same feeling when i first got it. After about a weekish of use though you get used to it and the tingle goes away

what im wonder is why on-the-fly sensitivity is appealing to someone who doesnt do fps? im pretty much fps only and i dont like it, even though i see why some people do; other game genres i dont really see it -
-
-
Side button isn't really doing much for me. I use it for vent but i didn't know i couldn't have 2 buttons on the same time on a mouse, so its useless as I can just have it back on my scroll wheel.
-
after so much praise and good reviews for the steelseries ikari. i might order the ikari optical tomorrow. i'm a low sensitivity player so 800-1600dpi is more than enough.
could anyone let me know if it's worth the extra money to go with the ikari laser? is the only difference between the 2, the tracking lasers? i'm a low sensitivity player so i high-dpi laser and dpi-changing features are unnecessary. -
i never really got the on-the-fly sensitivity changer to work well. It either changed too much or too little, its way too difficult to get setup properly since you have so many different settings to play with (dpi, in game sensitivity, OS sensitivity, logitech sensitivity, etc..)
-
I like having two thumb buttons, I have one bound for in-game chat and one for vent if it's running. I do get it confused sometimes though
-
-
I dont use the side buttons whilst gaming at all. but I use it frequently for websurfing. I also have the deathadder and i actually have got a claw grip...works fine for me.
I had the diamondback before.
-
I don't get the point of gaming mice myself..
I currently use a 3 year old microsoft wheel mouse optical. It cost me $19.99. You can get OEM ones on the egg for I think somewhere around 8$.
I've used a Razor diamondback, and Logitech's G3 and G5. In every case I was better with the old microsoft one.. I game with only my fingertips, I guess you would call that claw grip, and all of the time, I'm extremely fast with the microsoft ones, but the others just have added weight that I don't like, and neither are any more accurate. This one doesn't cut out at all when moving insanely quick, it's always responsive, and lightweight. That's just my view on it. I guess the extra buttons would be helpful for RTS/mmo players, but I usually accidentally press things I don't want to in an FPS when there's too many buttons, and on RTS's I use keyboard binds, I don't play MMO's but I'd assume it would be the same case as an RTS, whereas you can just use keyboard binds..
I'm actually quicker using the targus ultra mini than I am with razor diamondback, mabe look into one of those?
Also, a so called "gaming" mouse pad is usually not the best one for gaming. Most of the ones I've used actually make high end gaming mice innacurate and slow. Just look out not to buy ones that have a glossy or plasticy look to them. -
-
will get my deathadder tomorrow
pretty exited
-
Dude, use your touchpad. Mice are way overrated.
You and your mouse. Oh my god so many mice!
