Hi, guys. I'm just wondering what difference the two colors have. It seems like they are exactly the same except their colors.

But, why is the black model more expensive than the silver one?
On newegg.com, the black one is 42.99 dollars, compared to the silver one (39.99 dollars) I know it is just a 3-dollar difference, but I'm just wondering why.

Also, how much does your Zalman NC-1000 cooler decrease your hard drive temperature?

I would be tempted to say black absorb more heat, but it could just be the cost of the paint.

Only thing different is the color and black is more popular so probably more expensive.

It may depend its all about which notebook you have and your vent placement. Which notebook do you have?

Notebook coolers will only decrease temperatures by 1-5 degrees. Don't expect anything significant.

IMO, it's a waste of money for something can only be solved a cool room or good heat dissipating surface.

Thank you for answering my question!

I have a dv4t from HP. I'm not sure which one I should get. The bottom of the dv4t is black while the keyboard and palmrest areas are silver.

I'm exchanging this with another dv4t because its hard drive temperature is too high and I don't like the T9600. The T9600 is a really fast CPU, but I think I won't and can't use much of its processor power. Anyway, my concern is not the CPU temperature but the hard drive temperature. The hard drive covr on the bottom has a lot of holes that allow air to come in and out of the hard drive. So, if a Zalman cooler blows enough air, it should have an impact on the hard drive temperature.

u've probably only dealt with sub-par coolers then.

a good laptop cooler will drop yur idle temps 10c-15c+ (almost 20c in my case). it will also drop yur load temps 5c-10c+. when my notebook is on my cryo LX, even on low settings, u will rarely ever hear the notebook's fans kick in. it also helps temp fluctuations and helps hardware life-span.

You are quite mistaken upon this comment. It depends if you chose a good cooler for the fan/vent layout of your notebook. There are some notebooks that do not benifit more then 1-5 degrees but most will benifit more.

Could you post a pic of the bottom to see the fan.vent layout please? also a pic from the opening (lips) of the notebook so see black and silver together would be good.

Sorry... I don't have good pictures...

    So, for the bottom part...

The cover on the lower, right corner is the hard drive cover.
The vents on the upper, right corner suck air into the laptop.

For what you would like it appears the Zalman NC1000 should work well as it will hit the hard drive (which from the sound of it is causing the majority of issues) but will likly also hit the top vent if placed well on the cooler.

As for colour the black may look cool if you look at the notebook more horizontally then vertically as it may give it a more blended look. If you look from the top if the silver matches the silver on your notebook it would easily beat the black. But remember this is your choice.

If you're just using this at home at a desk, I'd say just get a card board box that is roughly the same footprint as your notebook, (the box for a wacom intuos tablet fits perfectly for my mbp) Cut a hole in the middle and have a small fan sit behind the laptop. I know this is kinda hard to explain but I will try and get pictures if youd like. But really, the total cost of this is pretty much zero if you already have a small fan and some cardboard lying around. And it works fantastic. The bottom of my case dropped from 105 F to 94 F.

X2P, thank you for your advice! I'm not sure yet, but I think I'll go with the black one.

kthung, can you post some pictures of that? I think I'll just buy the Zalman Nc-100, but I'd like to see how yours works :) Thanks!

I just received my 1000 silver today. Very nice looking.

However I can't test it out yet because my laptop comes in next week =[. I plugged it in my desktop and the fans feel cool :D
