I just purchased this cooler for my Dell XPS M1530 and was just wondering if the cooling is better if I put the cooler backwards so that the vent holes are under the back of the laptop or will it do the same directly under the black part?

You could but it is easier to just slide the notebook down on the cooler.

If I slide it down wouldn't it be too far off of the cooler?

Slide it down so that all but about 1cm of your fan or so doesnt hit the vents on the top end and then closer to you make sure that the closest vent to you is being hit.

If you can get both fully on there then it is best

Yeah. another thing... If you got a 9-cell, place it like I have described in the above post and also here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3727378&postcount=1673

Or if you have a 6-cell, move it forward so that the laptop is just about 1 or 2 cms sticking out of the cooler.. but thats ok.. But dont push it forward too much, since you will then leave out the hard disk part / vent... so I figured out 1 to 1.5 cms is kinda fitting well.

Also if you have a 9-cell, there are two ways, you either bring it forward to the level I have shown in the figure or keep the forward rubber two feet of the laptop just behind the rubber strip on the zalman.. this way the main intake vent of m1530 is bit off, but still half of it is on top of the zalman vents, and you will still get the cooling effect because of the lift from the 9-cell and also since the zalman has a very even spread of the air coming out..

    Thanks...

Nope I cant, and someone else tried to take it out as well and they said it was wobbling... if we take the 9-cell battery out of this XPS M1530, the system starts wobbling and tilting towards the back.. probably because there is no more foot rest for one... I dont know.. I tried.. but when I opened the lid the laptop started wobbling backwards...

Is the wobbling effect due to the lack of a rubber feet on the back right corner of the M1530 without the battery? Also did you use the NC-1000 or the NC-2000? I am debating whether I should get the NXZT or the zalman. If manipulating the laptop position on the zalman would work, then I will go with it =D.

I personally recommend Zalman NC2000... I even tried with the laptop within the zalman (unlike the pictures) and still there is considerable cooling for the reasons I mentioned in my post here after the picture posts....

and the wobbling was because of the rubber feet probably, but it was not just wobbling towards that right side.. the laptop itself started tilting backwards when the lid was open.... I dont know why..

Does it tilt backward even on a flat surface or just on the Zalman? My M1530 does not tilt backward on a flat surface, but if it will tilt on the Zalman, I might not get it =/.

Oh yea I find that using 2 quarters and a penny on the back right corner will solve the wobbly problem. They are like a perfect height with the other 3 rubber feet, but I will not go do some exact measurement.

EDITED: Is it possible for you to do some temperature test after you positioned your laptop? Thanks =D

Well, the tilt is not as much, as if the laptop is going to fall backwards.. but its because of the rubber feet thats missing once u take out the 9-cell.. I checked again now and its not just on the zalman. As you said, a couple of coins or a plastic strip thats just about the same size of the rubber feet solves this wobble.. But thinking about it I don't want to take that risk of having an uneven base for the laptop though I might find the perfect plastic strip or alternative to the missing feet...

As I said, even with the 9-cell the cooling is quiet effective...

For the temperatures, please check out the "drivers for 8600M GT on XPS M1530" thread in the Dell XPS forum... Towards the last you can find some temperatures before and after and so on...

    Cheers and good luck..

It is a nice cooler...that is what I originally had...used it, and for my own reasoning, felt I didn't really like it ~ and passed it on to a friend.

Now, I am rethinking getting one once again ~ after seeing Fonduekids nice pictures and his *mini-type* review. :)
