    Hi,

I want to by the Zalman cooler ZM-NC 1000 and I have a specific question which is related to the position of the fan exhaust of my notebook. My fan exhaust is positioned in the very back of the notebook and the holes of the Zalman cooler will definitely not cover my fan.

Is the Zalman still right for my notebook or does it only make sense to by the Zalman if the fan of the notebook is positioned more to the front?

    Thanx for your help!

The fan exhaust is in the back of the bottom of your notebook, or is that the intake?

If that's where the air is coming out you're going to need a cooler that sucks air away from the bottom of the notebook.

If that's where the air is being sucked in then you're still going to need a different cooler than the Zalman, you want the cooler to blow air up right at the fans of the laptop.

Check out this thread, but just glancing over it you might need something like the NZXT Cryo LX.

    Hi,

thank you so much for your reply. I have to say that this is much more difficult than I thought it would be because Im a real novice to the whole business.

Perhaps you could point me in the right direction.

I see that it is important to understand how the cooling of the notebook itself functions. And this is where the problem starts for me already. Here is a sketch of the underside of my notebook:

The air streams out as I figured out in the small place left to that hand, directly where the arrow is. Where the air is taken in I dont know.

Can you help me to find the right cooler?

    Thank you so much!

I measured the exact position of the fan:

what kind of laptop do u have and have u looked at cooler buying guide yet?

what kind of use does yur laptop get? heavy gaming and graphic intense programs or just regular web surfing? there are many factors to buyin a laptop cooler.

    Hi,

my notebook is called: Gericom Allround Notebook. Here are some details:

    Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core T-2370
    * ATI Mobility Radeon™ 2400 HD 128 MB
    (up to 256 MB)
    * 15,4'' WXGA Glare Type Display
    * 2.048 MB DDR2 RAM mit 667 MHz FSB

As to the use: regular web surfing; my internal cooler always starts cooling and making noise when I visit regular sites with video applications (such as yuotube) and the underside around the cooler gets very hot.

I hope I provided all necessary information.
Thank you very much for your help!

it seems u only use yur notebook for light stuff like web surfin. if u want to get a cooler that could house bigger laptops, as well as yur 15.4", then the nc2000 or the new coolermaster infinity should be good for u. that way u will save some money by not havin to get a new cooler if u do decide to upgrade in the future.

the cryo LX would be great for yur GPU and heavy gamers, but would probably be overkill for yur use/needs. unless u plan on gettin a gaming/powerful laptop, in the future, the other 2 coolers should be fine.

What size notebook is it? I was guesing somewhere under 13" from the image with the hand but i dont think the Cyro would be the best as it would mainly hit battery besides the fan.

Have you also ever blown on the fan a bit to try and get dust out of it? It can cause heat and noise issues

    Hello,

thank you so much for your answers.

I measured the exact position of the fan now (see the edited picture above):
from the front of my notebook to the fan its 18 cm and the fan goes on till 19,5 cm.

    It is a 15,4' notebook: 36 cm x24 cm.

Would the NC2000 or the Cryo or anything else be best?
    Thanks again!

I have a vostro 1400 and the nc1000 cooler fits just right. the meshed holes blow cool air upwards so make sure ur intake is underneath the laptop. for a 15.4in laptop the nc1000 is a bit small but the cooler will still do the job well.

if u are lookin for the best then the cryo LX is the best cooler out in the market. the cryo LX is made for gaming/power laptops, so it might be a bit over kill if u don't game or use graphic intense programs. the choice is ultimately yur's.

    I disagree with this statement

The majority of the vents are in the front/middle region and sliding it down a bit on the NC2000 and hit them and the fan intake or something such as the Cooler Master X2 Would be more effective then just cooling the battery and the tiny tiny fan intake with the Cryo LX

i've measured my cryo LX's cooling surface and have looked at his vent setup. the cryo LX will be more than enough to cover all of his vents. it's a 15.4" so u can slide the laptop all the way back til it's rubber feet are near the top of the cooler. another reason why i suggested it was cuz he asked for the best and the cryo LX will also cover any future laptops, if he decides to go bigger. even if the cryo LX doesn't directly cover his vents, the pure CFM will be enough to cool it.
