Sorry if this is a dupe post, I checked and couldn't find anything. Has anyone attempted to mod the NC2000, say, add fans to the other spots? I figure you would only have to cut the fan holes open with a dremel and hook it up. I have a NC1000 from my old 15" days. I'm debating adding the two fans from it to the NC2000 for better cooling on my M1730. Any suggestions?

    LOL.

I was about to do the same thing.

I also have a NC1000, then recent got my NC2000.

I was thinking of getting the fans out of the NC1000 and mount them into the NC2000.
    - then rewire the additional two fans on a separate USB cable (since there wont be enough power to use all four fans with one USB connection).

Great minds thing alike Gophn. I've got a Rosewill USB hub, since the M1730 only has 3 usb's. Figure power them off that, and see what I can do. Now I just need to find somebody with a dremel.

I'll trade you fans for the NC1000. Don't rip it apart just for fans!

Too late unfortunately. But, it's easily rebuilt. The fans are more like blowers, one side is sealed off so that it directs the airflow straight to the holes. I'll post some screenies when i get a chance.

The fans are ADDA AB0905HX-CB1, that is, the ones in the NC1000. Should be the same in both. I'm trying to find a seller of just the fans now.

I know how to get extra fans that are the same model.

Although the manufacturer/seller makes you buy a minimum of 20 in bulk.

I am trying to contact Zalman to see if they can sell me 'replacement" fans.

Well, won't work that way. The blower's are a decent size. That's why the blanks are there, to accomodate their size. Ah well, back to the drawing board.

I made a mod on the Zalman already.

I actually got a thick and heavy cardboard sheet and cut out the holes to line up with my notebook's intake fans/vents.

then i place the custom cardboard sheet on the NC2000.

Now there is increased airflow to the sections that I cut... since the air is blocked it the other sections that the cardboard is blocking and forces more airflow to the allotted openings that I cut.

You do know adding 2 fans ruins the evenness of the air flow? Zalman obviously put engineering into the notebook cooler, adding 2 fans will change the direction of airflow knocking the air flow system out of whack. Its like the note pal infinite... try adding a fan to this design...

It will also have some power draw problems via 1 usb port, an example would the NZXT Cryo. There are users who complain about power draw issues via usb and it uses 3 fans.

What do you mean, the XPS1730 has 4 USB ports, 2 on the right, 1 on the left and one in the back.
I`d rather have the airflow go AS I WANT it, than use a generic desing fit in an average way for any laptop.

Then use Gophns mod, since it does not disrupt air flow direction etc. It allows constant air flow but concentrated.
