Yep, microsoft will have it and is not afraid of releasing it, 2.4million of em... Sound ur thoughts.
For me, i welcome competition as it lowers prices BUT i dun like how the way m$ works, they would do anything to make the whole market theirs and no others. I would prefer that Creative or others to be in this spot rather than m$.

I can't see Microsoft taking over as a monolopy in this arena and I think the Zune has potential. I'm all for its continued existence. Maybe when my iPod dies I'll be buying one, depending on what's in whatever model's out when I'm in the market for a new mp3 player.
-
The reason I think that Zune will never beat IPOD until there are more accessories for the Zune.
-
Well, lets see how the DRM issue works first....
The WiFi is interesting, but they haven't been using it to their adavantage. The Sandisk Sansa Connect however, looks to take full advantage of WiFi. -
WiFi is the biggest trump card the Zune has, it's a shame that it's not going to be used by people in it's current form.
-
I think they should make it a bit smaller... then again, I'm into flash based players.
And actually have REAL wi-fi in it (not just for that stupid zune to zune share). And how about allowing it to work with iTunes and WMP?
It would be awesome to have it connect to my 360 for wireless playing, like I have itunes on my mac doing. -
So the reason the Zune never came out in the UK/Europe at all was because Microsoft was using NA as a test subject. Work out the bugs, iron out the kinks and find out what customers do not like. We will now be able to join the game with a new, sleeker and shinier package at hand
Any chance of drag+drop though Microsoft???
Still won't buy one though [insert devil smiley] -

Right now I'm planning on buying a Creative Zen Vision M soon.
Unless there is good news about another 30gb player at $250 or less. -
Correction: It's the ONLY thing the Zune has going for it as compared to competitors, and it's too locked down to make it worthwhile, not to mention it's not even used for syncing or anything else that wireless is typically used for. Hell, it even applies the 3-plays/3-days limit crap to unprotected and even legally free music. It's a feature that by simply existing actually diminishes worth.
I, for one, refuse to cater to a company that treats me with such disdain. Screw them, and every product they make. That goes for Sony, too. -
Good choice...three, that's right THREE of my buddies bought a Vision M from Buy.com when they were on sale (right now there's a $50 rebate but I think they were cheaper last week), and they all love it. I got to play around with one and it is pretty impressive. I like the touch sensitive buttons, and how everything is organized and how the buttons are laid out.
To add further to this thread, as a Zune owner I completely agree that WiFi is the main trump card it has over everything else, and it's very true that its current implementation blows. However, a simple firmware update can unlock so much. Right now the buzz is about wireless downloads at retail music stores, but what would really put it over the top would be unlocking streaming music at any WiFi spot with, say, your 360 acting as a server. The Zune Marketplace is also very cool, MS just needs to put more content on it, especially video content. -
turning the xbox 360 into a sort of slingbox-esque thing would actually be pretty cool. have it record or just stream TV shows...
I wouldn't buy it, but it's a neat idea. -
I personally wouldn't get the Zune, as many have said they are to 'locked-up'. I'd rather go with the Cowon A2, which has all the things I need, all the codecs for .avi and xvid and all that good stuff.

my zen vision: M over this POS ANYDAY!

I've been eying up one of these bad boys, myself:

well i have a zune and i can say that it is so great, so much better than the stupid ipod...IMO. the zune isnt bad at all, unlike what ppl have been saying about it. although the wireless could be better....but thats the only thing. everything else about the zune owns!!!
-
I also like my Zune a lot. When you read reviews around the Internet you usually hear about how the software locks up, how difficult it is to connect and download music to it, etc. but I haven't had a single problem. I guess that's what firmware/software updates are for
.
Anyway Zune has some great features going for it -- the huge screen, the scratch resistant finish, the simple but effective interface, an FM tuner -- but most importantly potential, esp. with WiFi and MS backing it up. Seeing the success of 360 you can't help but feel at least a little confidence in MS that they'll do something special with Zune. -
Aye, the D2, I was looking at this one also, and it looks pretty promising, except if I was going to drop that much money then I'd want more drive space, although it is expandable which is a nice feature.
-
I found the GP2x to be a good media player. Just the other day I was playing Duke Nukem 3d on it.
-
i also have the zen vision m and i have to say its better than any ipod or zune any day, its awesome screen and superior sound output is amazing. Not to mention that it can take a beating. I dropped it pretty hard one day on the asphalt (fell out of my hoodie pocket) and it smashed against the ground (it was turned off). I could have sworn it would be dead but when i pressed the button it turned on like it was fine.. Although it does have 2 chips in the metal and one place where theres a 1-2 centimeter gap of no metal on the backside lol

^^ Really? Zuners [sic] on head-fi have been complimentary and indeed have said they have found the Zune > iPod for SQ, but they have not been quite so enthusiastic
Personally I can wait another possible 5-8 months for a iPod 6G/Nano 2.5/3G announcement. I will then survey my options
Just a shame Cowon have left the game and are only concentrating on flash DAPs. A thinner X5, updated screen, better control setup would be tempting. *sigh* -
Metamorphical Good computer user
I am a Zune owner to. I have a white and piano black one and I love it. It sounds great, looks great and feels plenty tough. Of course how tough has yet to be seen. I'll report back as soon as I get a chance to take it to the beach (A slaughter house for electronics). I haven't had any problems with the software on either the player or my computer. Hell, the software is just media player 11 with a different 'play' button so ofcourse it works fine, it is merely a little redundant (Why not just let it work with MP11 M$?). I haven't had any problems transfering music or movies either. Movies look pretty good for being on such a small device. The wireless will eventually get its firmware update. I don't know what the future has for the Zune and it probably isn't for everyone. It is a little big and thick. But I'm happy with mine. -
Ditto that. I just got one last week. I'm rather fond of my white Zune too. Locked up or whatever, it does everything I need it to do. I very much prefer the interface on the Zune than the other players. I also really like the built in FM tuner and the ability to stream to my Xbox360. My digital life just keeps getter better by the day!
Ipod owner says, "Wait, let me see that again!" -

A Creative Zen: Vision M will still be my next mp3 player very soon.
-
I love my Zune. I had mine in the sleeve that came with it for 4 months when I bought it in December. There's not a single scratch on it. I dare any iPod owner who's had their iPod for longer than 3 months tell me the same. I bought a leather casing today just to get a little bit more style into my life, and now it looks even better.
-
Isn't that one of the charming aspects of the iPud? Being able to give it a major gouge by just breathing on it is quite a unique property for a portable device, in my opinion.
-
I just picked up a Creative Vision M. Its a pretty nice PMP. I like it ok, except I'm going to exchange it for a Cowon A2 in a couple of days. Its not that the Vision M is bad... its just that the A2 is so much better.
-
Syndrome, you're definitely an A2 fanboy, as you have posted many times about the wonders of the A2. The interesting part is that I was under the impression that you already owned one. I think if I were to buy one of those video players, I'd get the Archos 604, but I just can't justify paying more for the codecs and DVR adapter. You have to admit that the screens are better on the Archos, plus you get an additional .3 inches of screen.
-
Why does M$ waste your time?
-
Yes, I have been looking at the Archos 504, not the 604, the Wifi doesn't really sound useful to me as it will take my battery life up and anywhere I need I have my laptop. As you say having to pay for the extra codecs also doesn't turn me on, and I like the battery life of the A2, nearly twice as long when playing video, and that is due to the fact that the screen isn't as nice. The 80GB Archos 504 is a great deal though, I just don't want to spend anymore than I already have on it, so I guess I'm stuck with the A2.
-
I would love to see a Zune that can beat the IPOD hands down. I just hate Apple. If (cr)apple didn't have the IPOD then apple would be deader then Johny Appleseed!
-
I don't have a scratch on mine, and I've had mine for 3 months. But, I keep mine in a case almost all the time. I would do the same for any player I had. i just think it's silly to risk dropping it and scratching it or denting it.
